Because due to the simplistic visuals and stock music they were able to focus entirely on content and gameplay and the narrative.

That said I wish it was more balanced. I usually play Joykiller because its personality description is the closest to mine, but that stand is also clearly busted as fuck and way better than most of the others, which shouldn't happen.
