It's more about self-referencing and generally rougher than first Season, but still enjoyable. You should play third too while you are at it - it has upgraded graphics, sliiiiiightly different gameplay (Max gets set of skills to use here and there, one episode is made of scenes you play out of order while piecing them together, other does L.A. Noire nods with interrogation scenes), and is generally more polished. Personally I think first season is the best, though. It also amazes me how good russian localization was - for a game from franchise barely known in Russia outside of people who were born in era of LucasArts quests.
