I wasn't. I knew that without competition Sony would become more cancerous than ever. Sadly, I was right.

Ego is a known way to fuck yourself.

Nintendo's ego fucked them with the N64.

After PS2, Sony got cocky with the PS3, it fucking set them back almost generations.

Nintendo got uppity after the success of the Wii. They thought the Wii U would sell the same, didn't even bother to properly market it. Crashed and burned.

Microsoft's ego got the better of them after the 360. Thought they had the market sown up.

Never, EVER, get lazy and greedy.
>>
>>377791004
this
>>
>>377791004
The difference is that when Sony were cocky with the PS3. People complained.
When Sony were cocky with the PS4, it became their biggest success of the decade.

We're never ever going to recover from this. Sony went full cancer. People accepted it and rewarded Sony for it. And now it's an industry wide standard that's never going away. Literally more lucrative than game sales. More important to them than games.

Sony didn't fuck up as badly with the PS4. They priced it far more competitively for a start. Then they started doing the exact opposite of Microsoft's retarded policies.

to split hairs one might have had no interest playing online thus the $50 at launch ($60 price mark happen around Halo Reach) was debatable if it matter to you where Oblivion was the top seller the first holiday after launch and Gold didn't take off till 07 it's a safe bet that most didn't start eating into most users wallet.

It really, really, wasn't though. It really wasn't. It's just 3 and a half years for the PS4 to become overtake the PS3 in price.
That's not "way more reasonably priced". The PS4 literally ends up more expensive than even the most expensive PS3 model.

The PS3 launch price was $599. Six hundred fucking dollars. It almost killed Sony.

The PS4, a vastly more powerful piece of tech, was priced at launch $399. That's 200 fucking dollars than the PS3 was a t launch.

200 fucking dollars cheaper! What don't you understand?
>>
>>377789191
It is incredible how someone actually had the audacity to suggest buying an older model over their new product that they desperately wanted to sell.
>>
>>377792774
I didn't ignore it. I just didn't comment on it.
What's your point even? They were readily available. People bought all of them.
If you wanted one, they were easy to get.

I am not going to argue that they were selling as fast as the bigger model or anything like that because that'd be false. But claiming that no one bought the smaller model when they made tons of them and they all eventually sold out. Is silly. Since they sold out.

It's no wonder that the model was discontinued. But at the same time that entire line of production sold out. Plenty of people bought them.
What's your point even?

Can't blame them for the $500 price really. The kinect was actually successful on 360, about a third of 360 owners had one. If they said it would have 360 BC at launch, it would have been pretty much equal today. The worst part of it, was losing all the loyal 360 owners who then went to get a PS4. Getting those guys back is hard
>>

>>
>>377793597
>Can't blame them for the $500 price really

I absolutely can
>>
>>377793651
>anon you're just pretending to be retarded right?
No. But I'll take the opportunity to call all the people who bought 360s thinking they were cheaper than the PS3, retarded. Because that was most certainly not the case in essentially all of the cases.
That people don't realize that it ends up being more expensive doesn't change the facts. The costs down the line matter a lot more since they're the costs that adds up.
>>
>>377793831
Paying more money over the course of several years is much more preferable to consumers than a higher initial cost.

You see it time and time again.
I'm not discounting the fact that extra costs add up, but they're just not the most important factor when consumers buy a product. (in general, of course there are situations where consumers do care about extra costs, eg the fuel efficiency of a car)
>>
The funniest part of all this lead to how Sony literally aced the reveal of PS4 by just being a solution to a problem that didn't even exist. All they did was state the basics, show off some cool shit, pretend pre-owned discs are the best thing in mankind's history since bacon and make it 100 dosh less.

Instant Win,
Their presentation was an absolute annahilation , and sales figures clearly gave them a comfortable lead to this very day. And the best part is that Microsoft was the one who gave them the gun powder.

There are many things I dislike about Sony, but coming from someone who is studying marketing and PR they deserve an applause and a good grade on his papers and a nice tick in every box.
>>
>>377793947
>Paying more money over the course of several years is much more preferable to consumers than a higher initial cost.
That's just because your average consumer is fucking retarded and has no sense of business or economy.
>>
>>377793209
Which is a shame, because I had my PS3 at launch, granted, I had the 20gb version. I loved it and thought it was better than the 360.
>>
>>377794040
Or maybe it's because actual adults who have jobs can manage a distributed payment much more easily.
You'll understand when you finally graduate school.
>>
>>377794040
No? As a consumer I don't need to indulge in the benefits of that $60 a year service 100% of the time, so paying for it on an as-I-go basis is preferable to me. I only buy a month here and there for specific games with online features. Don't know why you'd keep the service up 12 months a year on the PS4, multiplayer shooters aren't the de facto genre anymore. Everything I play is single player, with the occasional trivial extra online feature.
>>
>>377794150

>>
>>377794383
Of course if you have the money to spend on something all in one go, do it.
But the average person doesn't, and they're not going to dip into their savings for a fucking games console.

people who get paid monthly can't afford large single payment items, hence why they buy a car with a payment plan, they buy their house with a mortgage, etc. Their choice is to either pay more in the long run for something, or not have it at all.

It's definitely not going to be considering Sony failed with the Pro.

Any fucking wonder why all their exclusives have had trash campaigns?

I was excited last year when I heard PC would get their first part titles. It's too bad that none of them have been that exciting.

>Even then the original plan was just going to require a ping to the internet, as in you could just sync your phone to it or whatever and itll check for a wifi source once a day and nothing would ever happen
>this is literally the future

It's literally not.

No matter how much better Microsoft Xbone looks today, no matter how much PR work they put in to undo the damage their original reveal did, no matter how much they talk about games

Remember that underneath all of those things was a corporation that up-front told everyone that they were going to launch an expensive, always-online, piece of shit hardware with little in the way of interesting exclusives, no backwards compability, running an OS that sends you ads and a constantly active camera that watches you play vidya simply because they thought they could get away with it.

Im afraid it is m8

You can just sense the bad intent from steam and sony. What nintendo doesnt do with drm, they do with $80 controllers and over priced consoles

Everyones out to fuck you

Sony didn't fail with the Pro. It's doing what it's supposed to be doing. Convince late adopters with cash and a hard on for graphics to grab a console that now has an exclusive catalog worth playing but with better hardware. One, two and three years after the Pro's launch, games on it will start looking much better than base PS4 games. It'll be apparent that's where people who care about visuals will go, while price conscious buyers will still to the base model. This'll help give PS4 an edge until PS5 launches.

>helped Microsoft sell more original Xboxes
>is credited as the main ideas guy behind Kinect
>announces all that evil greedy shit that sony also wanted to do for Xbone
>nerds get mad
>in June he makes a statement that the xbone won't be Always-Online and that you can share/trade game discs
>in July he leaves Microsoft for Zynga
>after a short term he resigns from Zynga

Also fuck Peter Moore. The entire Microsoft Xbox division has been cancer on the industry since it's inception.

That is the most beautiful comment I've read in a while.

The funny thing is you can be almost sure that this will happen every single time: an individual is capable of being aware of shit like that and be vigilant with getting to cocky, corporation has almost zero chance of escaping this cycle. The only offchance is if the CEO is bomb enough to make the board listen to him. I guess it's time to start trading stocks. Or not.

That's not really an accomplishment.
