I actually never had a problem with the "realistic" look Advent Children pioneered. I always thought it was an interesting look into the fictional universe in a way that makes it 99% tangible, in comparison to a stylized version. It was always kind of a rare look into the anime artstyle and what these characters actually would look to our eyes if we met them in person.

I always liked the original Nomura artstyle of the characters in FFVII and the quirky nature of their animations at the time, but I never really rejected the Advent Children look quite as much as some people here. I always felt it added a human element that a stylized look can't achieve by nature.

Their actual behavior and acting is a different story, and an extreme case of mileage may vary,
but that has nothing to do with how they actually look.
