I feel like the colored in irises take away some of that cuter mascot appeal the original design had.

His spin-off games are better, I'll give you that.

They made him lanky because Classic Sonic's proportions make it hard to read what his limbs are doing at some angles. I still prefer his Classic look though, It's a really good balance between being able to switch from "cute" to "cool" looking.
