Who wants to see my solo Unarmed mountain man Arisen? hard mode, dual bloody knuckles and dressed like a barbarian king. Beat the entire game including BBI as a pure unarmed build, the only time I brought in pawns was to beat the living armour boss to open the door in late BBI.

So, there I was walking the castle grounds after being deemed the Duke's new errand boy and this bloke, Fedel pulls me aside for a word. Says he wants to see me in the dead of night, so I play along, thinking it must be worth it.

Seems some beasty stole his secret letter. I took pity on him, because life is hard for one who's got more secrets than the wits to keep them. I mean, why not drag the duke into the courtyard at an ungodly hour instead of writing him secret letters?

Anyways, we find the spot where the letter was taken and by miracle the pawns know where the beasty went and they insist we give chase. Turns out it's in some dank, ravine full of harpies, spiders, ghosts and an ogre for good measure. I'm thinking to myself that, that's it. The letter's safer down there than it is in Fedel's mind, but the man will have none of it. He wants the paper itself, though it must be soaked through and unreadable by now.

I've no clue why, but I decide to go along and after nearly dying a dozen times I'm back in the capital, letter in hand. The only sane person in this story is Ser Gabrian who intercepts me to ask for the letter and, by god, I let him have it to teach Fedel a lesson. If a secret's worth a mans life he can bloody well deliver it in person next time.

There's very little left. Go see the duke, get 20 wakestones, and do one last (easy) fight. Then, you have the real ending. There's post-game quests, but they're not too important. Also, the DLC content has really bloated numbers. It has some super neat stuff, but it's grindy. Good ideas ruined by bad implementation. You're not missing much from not doing it.

So the dragons dogma is a deception. The Dragon is only there as a motivator for you and all other Arisen. The end goal is for you to gain the unbreakable will necessary for you to take the throne of god. Humans in dragons dogma are naturally devoid of will. Same as the pawns. Arisen are the outliers in that they have the strength of will to face down danger without mindlessly protecting their own lives, and these are the people the Dragon picks out as candidates for god. Where pawns are soulless machines commanded by the Arisen, normal humans are soulless machines supported by god. And when you slayed his dragon you proved ready to take his throne.

So rather than allowing you to enjoy a happily ever after he intentionally broke the world even more to goad you into seeking him out. I mean why wouldn't you jump into the massive never-ending hole? The thing about being god though, you can't do it forever. It eats away at you and the more your will fades over the millennia, the more humanity begins to become like pawns. So while he'd love for youto just kill him and be done with it he most leave the world in capable hands before he passes the torch to you.

Well yes mostly. Call it laziness of the developers but most of the npcs have generic dialogue about how they don't seem to have the strength to do anything. Or how they may as well just let the Dragon kill them. Or hell let's all worship death even though the Dragon can't manufacture a single fuck to give any of us. Guys like the Arisen are supposed to be people who can generate will on their own, independent of god but even this isn't an "I win" trait. The vast majority of Arisen just die before they ever even see the Dragon and aside for Edmund everyone thinks the legend of the Arisen is a fairy tale. It's funny, there's a guy in GS who accuses you of paying 3 idiots to follow you around so you can pretend to be an Arisen.

I wouldn't be surprised. There's so so so much shit that you miss because 3 out of every 4 npcs have nothing interesting to say so you never check on them. Like before fighting the Dragon go back to Edmund. Edmund throughout the game basically gave you nothing missions designed to get you killed before he tried to cart you across the ocean where you'd be out of his hair forever but this was mostly him pretending to prepare to fight the Dragon. If you talk to him just before fighting Grigori he'll drop the pretense and tell you that fighting the Dragon is an act of treason against the crown.

Also Fidel (I think that's his name. The guy who sends you to find the burning cart.) His wife will flirt with you and make it clear that she wants to take you to bed during the second half of the Dukes missions. But once the Dragon challenges you she'll despair and just call on the Dragon to end her quickly.

Julien will tell you that there's rumors that the king of Hearthstone doesn't even want Mercedes and doesn't give a fuck about the alliance with GS. Grinding isn't that bad if you have a party but soloing in this game is suffering. If localization isn't announced this year I'm pretty sure it never will since DD has pretty much become a Japan only series in Capcom's eyes, the good sales of DDA on the steam are the only glimmer of hope they might actually consider bringing it over imo.

You're supposed to switch between a magical class/tank class every 5/10 levels right? Is that for your character too, and what's the best vocation to play? I was thinking Bowman since theoretically that would be cannon.

Unless you're planning to play an MK,or, MA (and even then tank levels are pointless), no. The game isn't hard enough to warrant getting tank levels on things like assassin and sorc, and melee and most "rouge" classes don't get anything from playing a magical class. So just pick what you think feels right to play.

Yeah, I do this on purpose every time I start a new game. When you start a new game, the new file starts out in offline mode. Your online profile is still the same from your old save data, and has your old pawn chilling in the rift. Once you go online and use an inn, it updates your online data by posting your new pawn in the rift. But first, it sends you all the stuff your previous pawn would've received. Since it's usually a BBI-tier pawn's rewards, I usually rake in a nice amount of RC and monster knowledge.

Ignore stat growths and play as you want. If you're worried about autistic minmaxing in the future, you can always start new or get the dinput dll mod and manually re-assign your level ups and stats, etc. Even the "ignore vocation for equipment and skills" toggles make the mod worthwhile; ultimate Fashion Dogma and you can use the weapons you want regardless of vocation.

I run it and the mod that removes all the Capcom bullshit from in-game screenshots.
