Good. I'm way better at having fun now that I'm an adult.

The only thing worth missing is opening the box and reading the manual on the car trip home

It sure beats having to buy the same game only to find out it sucks. I really miss the era of rentals and freeware/shareware demos.

> No blockbuster in town
> Rent vidya from the used tires guy.
> Later realize he was an in-box completionist collector who made money loaning his games.
>>
>>377738249
At least you didn't drop $50 - $60 on it.
>>
>>377737242
>Video rental stores only lasted near 35 years

Seeing something born and die like that really sucks
>>
There are still some Blockbusters stores in existence.

>>
What about becoming a parent and taking your child to blockbuster to rent a game for him?
>>
>>377738536
Demo's need to come back. Its the least a company can do.
>>
>you will never be an insanely easily-entertained snot-nosed little shitstain ever again

>>377737242
i swear i was thinking about this today!
>>
>>377738180
I only ever remember renting one game that still had the manual; it was torn up and drawn on

>Blockbuster
pffft. Blockbuster didn't even have a used games section.
>>
>>377742218
same

I remember opening up the box of the game, reading the manual, and every page was just full of poorly drawn dicks with balls in red pen.

I just felt sad.

What? Mine did. Not only that but they were dirt fucking cheap. They would buy new releases by the hundreds and once the rentals died off they would throw them all into a huge bin by the door for like 5 bucks a pop. It would only be like 2 months after the game came out too.
>>
>>377738249
This and those demo discs they used to send out where fucking fantastic.

I also remember getting the banjo kazooie VHS back in the day which was just an ad they sent out to people.
>>
>>377742265
the one in the town I used to live in did
>>
Back when I did visit both stores for newer releases and stuff but most of my rentals came from a place called Video Time or something like that. Huge SNES and NES selection I remember them also having lower prices for longer rent time.

What I do miss is the video store smell.

>Aunt ran her own video store
>Just about every major studio would send her a VHS of a movie to watch to see if she wanted to stock it
>tfw she'd watch them then give it to us, so we would literally have a VHS copy of some movies that were still in theaters
>The only thing wrong with them is there would be scrolling text at the bottom saying 'Not for sale or distribution' but only for the opening credits
>>
Most of my memories are renting for the ps2, some ps1. Good times, a new experience every weekend.

Then it went to gaming with friends in highschool, now we all kinda hate each other and the majority are pretty jaded about life.

huh, maybe Blockbuster started doing it after I stopped going? or maybe it was my local Blockbuster. West Coast Video and Hollywood Video were more popular in my area.
>>
>>377737242
And I never was.

>tfw you will never go to the comfy as fuck local business in your small town to hang out with your friend all night playing a stupid digimon fighting game while yelling at each other and laughing ever again
>>
>>377744197
Oh yeah. She could have got in a literal fuckton of trouble for giving it to us. Still, we kept quiet about it. We knew if we started opening our mouths about it she'd stop sending them to us.
>>
>>377743451
Jig's up your aunt's going to gaol now son
>>
>>377744275
You mean
>tfw the inevitable march of time happened to me :(
>>
there's a 7-11 by my house with a redbox. sometimes i walk over there to rent a game and get some snacks to relive the old times

i've never actually rented a game though because modern games are all shit
>>
>>377744621
Oh you poor sweet nostalgic-blinded dumb retard.
>>
>>377744621
I don't understand why Blockbuster is extinct but sterile red computers with one-ten-thousandth of Blockbuster's selection standing outside convenience stores still thrive.

Did people just become anti-social and get uncomfortable dealing with actual people behind a counter or something?
>>
>>377744965
It's almost like it's cheaper to install a little red computer than buying a building, remodeling, stocking it to the brim, paying utility bills, paying employees, etc.
>>
>>377744621
>modern games are all shit
they always were
>>
>>377744965
it's cheaper and more convenient than blockbuster for literally everyone involved.
>>
>>377744621
>Having to go to your local ghetto gas station to relive childhood memories and using a rundown Redbox machine

Fucking so sad.
>>
My mom was the manager of one. She would bring home "scratched" ps1 games for me all the time.
>>
>>377745707
>implying a ghetto gas station with a rundown redbox isn't the perfect metaphor for reliving childhood memories
>>
>>377737242
Now you're supposed to have kids and give them similar experiences. FOREVER ALONE
