If developers made a new PS1 game today with current knowledge and skills, what would it be like?

But even worse
>>
Like an early/mid gen PS1 game

Very few current devs have the knowledge base to create games for legacy hardware

Shitty as it was then. Enjoy your crappy looking mgs and ff7 and awful load times.

Pre-order to get disc 2.

How were PSX games coded back then? Did they still use assembler?

Is there no way to work around this?

This looks even worse then I thought

The hell?
>>
>>377674713
Still looks like dogshit. And lol those classic warped walls.

Why do humans have such shit taste?
>>
>>377674713

That actually pretty poor for a PS1 game in general

>>377674251

Essentially this. It would end up looking worse than top tier PS1 games of the time because a current dev wouldn't have any idea what they were doing, or any of the tricks that were used to make decent looking PS1 games
>>
>>377675064
Ps1 had no decent looking games.

Capcom had to use pre rendered walls to avoid warped 3d walls.

do EVERYTHING in software, like that Duke3D's port.

The downside: everything's done on the CPU, and thus will run like shit.

>Actual development cycle much shorter than 1 year
>Looks this good

How the hell could 2017 people with 2017 knowledge and 2017 access to documentation/ability to ask veteran PS1 devs about tips/tricks produce SUCH TRASH???

Literally Silent Hill 1

For REFERENCE, this is Crash 2 and it still looks 100x better than the garbage "1995" shit
>>
>>377674713
RE animations didn't even look as bad as that.
>>
>>377675185
Jaggies and no faces. Common problem back then for taller models on ps1.

>>377675330

Cel Shaded textures and easier to pull off.
>>
>>377675414
>>377675521
It's because devs back then had to use the hardware to it's limit and overcome challenges, while 1995 has blurry low poly models for the sake of nostalgia

Screw you, PS1/Saturn graphics are pretty awesome in their own, charming way. They have a very arcadey look to them, I like that.

Calm your autism, literally one guy said there's no decent PS1 looking game while the rest shits on 1995
>>
>>377675687
Fighters always looked better to me. Most polygons went to the models and backgrounds.

Fully 3d games with mutiple foes aged bad.

2d was alright on ps1 too.

nothing you can do about the 240p res, but the game has pretty damn good character textures and models.

How did Spyro manage to look so decent then?

>>377675948

Holy crap, that's impressive for PS1
>>
>>377675330

Screencaps don't do it justice, it looks VERY good in motion.
