Why is this game such an unoptimized pile of shit? I bought it

I'm also afraid to install any updates because I've heard that the patches make frame-stuttering worse. Either way the game looks like it would have been graphically impressive 10 years ago and still manages to run like shit

Doesn't fuck anything up, fixes a number of bugs like purple colored sea, weird shaders out of nowhere that makes certain places like a disco party and so on, if you haven't even updated the day 1 update it also adds new combat moves, being able to teleport outside of battles and a few other things, apparently as of the latest update you're able to go on top of those huge archways over there but i haven't played in quite a few months

tl;dr, no reason not to update

Nice cherrypicking faggot. The textures just look like shit and the frame rate is just god awful for me. I'm not a Kojima fanboy by any means nor did I buy the game explicitly with the intention of hating it. It's just that so far it's a fucking mess without an update

There is no cherrypicking you dipshit. The game was released with a day1 patch that completely upgrades it and all subsequent patches too. MGSV pales in comparison in every way and literally uses ps3 tier models on the PS4 version. all of XVs models are multiple times more poly and better textured with far better animation, the environments are more detailed and the monsters and combat animations shit on anything mgsv tried.
