If you have a PS3 I think you can get the ps1 games there. Otherwise emulate it.
You'll have to choose between original RE1 and REmake. REmake is overall considered to be better, but it doesn't have RE1's ridiculous voice acting, so your choice will depend on that.
Also, RE code veronica is a thing, but some people find it a little weaker, while others quite like it.

I actually prefer the original RE over REmake. REmake makes the solutions convoluted, and I wasn't a fan of the crimson heads. It looks super pretty though.

Also play Revelations 1. It's like a mix of 4 and 1.

Sort of this. It's only good with a friend though, the AI partner is pretty bad, but overall it's a subpar singleplayer game anyway.

Nah RE5 is garbage. No atmosphere outside the first 10 minutes. The action intensity starts out at the level of the ending of RE4 and only gets higher and higher but still has the controls of 4. (Unless you try that garbage hybrid setup)

Dead Space 2 is great as well despite it being less scary because of the action set pieces but its definitely worth a play if you enjoy the first game.
Don't touch the third game unless you have to friend to do co-op with.
