GDQ is done. The core of the community has all moved on to NASA and RPGLB. Both events have the magic and charm that GDQ did 5 years ago when it started. RPGLB donates to a fucking autism charity, too, you spergs should be all over that.

The whole reason I even watched RPGLB was for Xenoblade, which was a complete and utter letdown. If you're speedrunning the game, aren't you supposed to be really fucking good at it, know how everything works and all that shit? They spent literally like an hour grinding gogols so they could be 4 levels above the final boss, what a load of ass. No impressive gameplay, no strategizing, just cheesing and grinding.
>>
>>377602145
Did it ever occur to you that the point of a speedrun is to complete the game as fast as possible?

>>
>>377602309
something something speedrunning is a mental illness

cue that Goldeneye speedrun training video
>>
>>377602218
My point is, I'm fairly sure you could complete the game at least 45 minutes faster by getting through the battles with pure skill and setup, instead of wasting an hour grinding. And this was after Mechonis Core too, because they were already high-level before from getting to an end-game area and skipping from level 9 to 43.
>>
>>377602392
I wonder who would be more correct: you, who has clearly never speedrun the game or the people who autistically play the game for 6 hours a day and have spent likely hundreds of hours trying to find the fastest route through the game.

I don't know.

Miles really seemed like someone who hated all the shit behind the speedrunning/twitch culture.

I remember reading his chat rules and it was pretty clear he was against all the cancer that the speedrunning communit is.

I still have hope that all this is just a ruse hes doing to piss of trannies and SJWs, i hope.

Then maybe I will try speedrunning just to prove that you don't need to grind. After all, even Cosmo admitted that he knew jack shit about anything in Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker that wasn't part of his route.

I love that those always happen towards the end of the stream when they realize that they made a lot less money than last year.
It couldn't be more obvious fake.
>>
>>377603085
At least some of those have to be fake, right? Maybe I'm just jaded and cynical, but it just sounds so preposterous that SO many people not only A) have that kind of cash to donate to charity B) also have an interest in video game speed runs and C) wish to remain anonymous for "reasons".

You'd have to look on their site to know for sure but I remember that someone read it and it said only like 5-10% of it actually goes to the cause they're for. The rest goes into "management fees". Unfortunately this is how most """"charities"""" work.
>>
>>377602309
He's a tranny too? Pics?

>>377603748
Yes, but people here seem to think all they do is "money laundering" even though that's not what money laundering is at all.

Only a small number of the money they get is for management fees, their expenses are available online. I don't understand why there's so much misinformation about the charity here and why people are so hellbent on believing they're scam artists or something, but it wouldn't be /v/ without conspiracy theories.

>>377604531
Yes, and again, people keep saying that they're shady and don't show their expenses but they do exactly that and what they do is pretty normal for a charity.
>>
I enjoy watching speedruns but I'm nowhere near autistic enough to do them
>>
I'm not really following AGDQ/SGDQ, but videos keep popping up in my youtube recommendations.

I haven't seen any recommendations from this winter, though.
Has anything gone wrong? Was there any trouble?
>>
>>377603748
No it doesn't, it goes into cancer prevention campaigns like the famous one that get posted on here a lot that just shows two naked dudes touching their balls and the tile is "besties check their testies" or something.
People always donate with the believe that their money actually goes into cancer research but they never actually point out that that's simply not true.
>>
>>377601364
I heard they actually checked the hotel beforehand this time.
>>
>>377604969
They do fund cancer research. Jesus Christ. It's just not the focus of the charity.

Preventing cancer is ten times easier than curing it. Do you really not know that? Do you know how many more men would be alive if they caught their testicular cancer early through the help of posters like the ones you mentioned?

There is no proof that they don't fund cancer research. It says it on their website and their wikipedia page, and although that's not 100% trustworthy, I implore you to find something that says otherwise with substantial evidence.
>>
>>377602513
Wasn't that only for the first couple of days? I watched it from about halfway through and it wasn't that bad.

I think they're going to that gym again this year but doing the dual stream again.

>him and a few other people keep doing it, always gets some laughs
>one of the runners is clearly really bothered by this, one of the commentators turns around to see if they can tell who is doing this shit
>it goes on for awhile, run remains boring
>guy in front row asks one of the commentators for his mic/headset, which the retard gives up for some reason

I'm a little late to BTFO that blatant PCF shill, but watch this if you want to educate yourself. PCF is a fucking scam, anyone who takes the time to look at their financial reports can see it. They also work directly with GDQ and oversee the hiring of staff for the event. Half of the money that's donated comes from PCF themselves to increase revenue because of tax code loopholes.

While the money was never dirty to begin with per se, filtering their own money into the donation pool, just to make their numbers look greater, is a kind of laundering.
AGDQ doesn't want money, they want donated money. A way to "clean" regular money into donated money is to filter it through the stream's donation pool.
also PCF is an evil organization that gives a portion of the donations to the heads of GDQ

>>377615948

I hate having to have this argument every time I go to a GDQ thread. There's something horrifically autistic about me feeling the need to argue with you guys all the time about something that doesn't affect me because I don't even donate to GDQs, so I'll stop. You can keep being wrong.
>>
>>377615948
just to be devils advocate if you look at their financial statements they really aren't that shady at all. Its just...you really shouldn't donate to any charity with "Foundation" in its name

I know people get on them about the posters and shit but that's what they do, they're not it to actually help find a cure like most people believe, they're just spreading awareness about the disease. The posters may be dumb but I still remember that "be my bestie check my testies" one clearly and that's really what they're after.

At least they're not like Susan G Koleman Foundation

Nah, senpai. I love watching RPGLB runs. I can't stand GDQ anymore because it's all trannies wanting attention and no fun allowed and most of the runs are of greenlight indie trash from steam where they're the only person who runs it so they can claim a wr and be famous on SDA.

Limit Break has the actual magic and charm that made GDQ great at first. I recently watched their Valkyria Chronicles run from a couple years ago, and I wanted to reach through the screen and give the runner a hug and ruffle his hair. He was a fat autist, but he had an adorable lisp and a huge grin on his face like he was actually enjoying his run and was just there to share one of his favorite games with everyone. He had great commentary and a good couch behind him chiming in with even more. They were allowed to crack jokes and have fun and be informal.

Got a little off topic but the point is, I like watching speedruns for the commentary, I just can't stand GDQ anymore, it's a fucking dumpster fire at this point.
>>
>>377616571
Financial statements being audited just means they're accounting systems aren't fucked up, has nothing to do with the quality of the income or expenses at its core.

It would be reasonable to call any cash outflows to things like gdq program expenses since they are part of the fund raising activity.
>>

the most notable tricks are the poison trick used to take out materia keeper and the midgar skip that basically skips the entire penultimate dungeon in the game and fucks the music for the rest of the game.

Also FF7 has a hilarious gate keeper boss like 4 hours into the run that can just kill it unceremoniously, you know, because of that no grinding thing

but yeah its still an rpg run that clocks in at almost 8 hours, but this guy is just talking out of his ass
>>
>>377617773
Do you really think PCF would shill on /v/ of all places? If I were them I'd sent plants to people that are running's channels and have them hype up donating during the run so it can get into SGDQ 2018 as well.

Its sad I think that way but still that's just marketing. Honestly though PCF are in the bottom 30% of charity spending and that's because alot of the money goes towards paying all their staff and only about 20% of the million dollars they make from AGDQ goes to a good cause.

Purely subjective if they're actually suspicious. There's evidence to suggest they are, and evidence that says otherwise.
>>
>>377617737
Cancer prevention and research. Less than half of their donations go to that. Unless they're lying on their financial reports. Or they think making posters counts as cancer prevention.

The money laundering is fucking obvious. Don't even try to deny it. Every year since they took over GDQ there's been these fucking shady ass anonymous thousand dollar donations every 15 minutes during the last day of the event. It's also proven fact they donate at least some money to GDQ. Why the fuck is a charity donating money to their own fundraiser? Why are you so vehemently defending them if you're not a paid shill? Someone in your family die of cancer? If so that sucks anon but there are a half dozen other charities that are in the same field that are much better. It's also much better to donate directly to hospitals and doctors, not charities. Charities are an unnecessary middle man just their to line their pockets most of the time.

Livin' the dream in this "non-profit" organization. That being said, I will admit that they are transparent. Pretty much all of the GDQ donations go straight into employee pockets, but hey. Mike gets paid, you get to see dumb posters, and a small percentage of total operating profits goes to research. I think what annoys people the most is that people donate with all these messages like "Let's kill cancer" when their donations aren't doing anything of the sort. They can't even read "PREVENT" and think they're donating for a cure.

>How the fuck are PCF evil? You do realize that all charities pay their employees, right? Are you stupid?
Because, like I previously stated, this charity is operating in a cyclical fashion to generate money and just because this is not illegal, doesn't mean it's right either.
But here is how PCF has generally worked throughout the years. A young charity event normally picks a single charity to give all of their earnings to, as a show of goodwill unto the world. The charity (PCF) will then acknowledge the event and return some of that money to the event so that it can happen again. But like any good Ponzi scheme, the greater the money earned, the greater the money returned. This leads to AGDQ heads and PCF heads making a ridiculous amount of "maintenance" money and if you'll look at their financial statements, you'll see the heads of PCF make a very pretty penny for their fight against cancer.

If you're still not convinced that this organization is a scam, let me also remind you that the GDQ events themselves don't do a very good job of informing its donors about where the money goes. PCF, like any good Kars4Kids-type operation, is awfully ambiguous as to what they do. Any organization that "spreads awareness" about a disease so common a toddler could identify it, tends to not really care about the actual discovery for a cure or the helping of those suffering from from the disease. As a result, people get the impression that their money is actually going to cancer victims and the discovery of groundbreaking technology. You see donations all the time that say "let's kick cancer's ass" and "I'm donating so that no one has to suffer from cancer the way my father did." Notice how GDQ never corrects these people, but instead will briefly mention how PCF does so much for the prevention of cancer............ and spreads awareness.

The point is, these are legal business schemes. Feel-good events that operate under the veil of goodwill through ambiguity.
>>
>>377618235
SGDQ is a different event with different staff and a different charity. SGDQ actually donates to a far far worse charity, but the evidence is a little more scarce and the dots are harder to connect.
>>
>>377618293
They're called the Prevent Cancer Foundation, not the Prevent Cancer (oh and we also research it guys we promise) Foundation. And yes, making posters count as cancer prevention. How do they not? How else are they supposed to tell people how to check for tumours? Seriously, making flashy and weird adverts for their cause like the "touch your best mate's balls" one is the best thing they could do since something that bizarre sticks with you.

Again, you have no proof for them "laundering". Can you not accept a coincidence for once in your fucking life? Do you have to be jaded all the fucking time? There's no proof for it, and yet you accept it like it's the truth.

I'm only defending them as much as I am because people here are stupid and attack them as much as possible and make claims they have no evidence for. I've never said what they're doing is good, or that there's no better alternative, nothing like that. I'm just saying that it's not a scam if they tell you it's one.

If they pay their employees with donation money, then fine, as long as they say so.

>>377618691
I'm not reading your fucking novel, but one sentence stuck out to me so I'll address it. PCF are definitely NOT ambiguous. I'm guessing what they're talking about is how MSF will help terrorists or whatever. This is a gray area. As someone with a bit of experience on the topic I'll give you my take on it. When you sign up for the medical field, you gotta leave your sense of justice behind. I'm a paramedic, so I help criminals all the time. I go to the federal jail at least once a week. Murderers, rapists, etc. It's not my right to decide who gets medical care or not. Once you get it in your head who deserves what, things get really fucked up. In this regard, I respect the MSF doctors for helping everyone without bias. That's the true medical way. On the other hand, I recognize that helping these dangerous people can lead to more people getting killed and hurt, which then puts more load onto MSF themselves.

So it all depends on how you view it I suppose. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer to it.

And then there's the one or two games that were made specifically for speedrunning so there's no glitches or strats or anything it's just a short first person platformer with some movement mechanics, which completely kills the whole fucking point and original idea of a speed run in the first place.
>>

Their name could mean anything and to the regular Joe, it does.

I don't get why you're giving an unreasonable amount of leniency to an organization that misappropriates funds to all things that do not, in any meaningful way, help the prevention of cancer.

They're not any worse that the previous ones. You probably don't enjoy speedrunning in general.

Yeah. Not just runners, 10 people owned it on Steam

What a joke

You just submit your run and it either gets accepted or not Spikevegeta usually compiles a list for us in google docs then we judge on categories like time, how much money it can draw, and if the run is actually entertaining

also helps to know someone who judges whether or not a run should be accepted

What if they made a mod to give Ribbon a better outfit?

There is one other character with art even worse than Ribbon, but 1) they'd never meet that character in a speedrun and 2) the art only shows up on the hardest difficulty.
