Don't mind me, just being better than any Alien Movie/comic/game in the last decade.
>>
Isolation would have been better if it was half as long
>>
What a low fucking bar that is.

What's next, are you going to tell me it's better than Ride to Hell Retribution?
>>
Covenant was a good movie.

Not Alien good but better than Aliens and far better than Prometheus.
>>
Appealing to nostalgia and "canon purity" isn't the same as being good.
>>
>>377594292
>Covenant
>better than Aliens
You're either high or goddamn retarded.
>>
>>377594282
Hi Carpenter
>>
>>377594124
The original Alien film was so good because the executives (read it up, it's true) threw away the entirety of the original script and redrew it entirely.

Now that he's too big to be criticised and have his shit ideas shot down by people who know better, Riddley Scott does whatever the fuck he wants - resulting in shit movies. He suffers from George Lucas Syndrome.
>>
>>377594554
Good thing the last Star Wars movies were soooo much better!
>>
>>377594124
I absolutely hated this game, I don't understand how it received universal acclaim.

Every fucking level is exactly the same. You experience the whole game in the first hour and then it just goes on for another 15. You crouch around, watch your motion detector, and then hide when anything comes. That's the whole game.

I first couple times hiding from the xenomorph were really fun and intense, but the pattern almost immediately becomes rote and so fucking monotonous. Never run, always crouch, if it sees you you're pretty much dead, repeat forever. And it's the same exact shit with the other humans and the androids, except you can kill them if you want to although there's really no reason to unless you're just THAT fucking bored.

I'm not arrogant enough to think everyone else in the world is wrong, but I truly don't get it. This game should have been 10 dollars and 3 hours long. Explain to me what I'm missing.
>>
>>377594734
They were far better than the prequels.
>>
>>377594760
It was a bit too long. To me a lot of the fun was learning to use the tools you are given to mess around with the alien and the bots.

I also like the time attack mode in the DLCs.

I feel the alien lacked some sort of progression though.

The first time its allowed to roam in the hospital its by far the hardest, only gets easier after that.
>>
>>377594124
Accurate.

>>377594248
Sorta true, but I think it's actually a problem with pacing not length. At some point it really feels like you reached the end but you haven't, this kind of makes the last half seem really long.
>>
>>377594734
They were better than 1, 2, and 3 though, I'd say 7 is better than 6 also, but not as good as 4 and 5
>>
>>377594734
Either that's weaksauce bait or you're THAT retarded. Either way, that's a pathetic thing to say.
>>

>>
>>377594815
>blatantly remake the first Star Wars with more hip characters
>success!
At least, I remember the pod Racing in Star wars 1.
>>
>>377594815
True, but I kinda have to give it to the prequels to try and throw in some new stuff and interesting concepts - like maybe politics, instead of merely handwaving and saying "yeaahhh we won in the last movie but we are the rebellion again for some contrived reason so that we could make it just like in ANH again so lemme wave my hands some more".

The prequels definitely sound better on paper than they do on the screen, and TFA also is a lot better on the screen than it would sound on paper
>>
Ridley Scott's last truly great movie was Black Rain.
>>
>>377594760
thats why you mod it to take the alien off its stupid e-leash so it can freely roam the space station and come out of places you'll never hear it instead of the shitty rattle rattle here i come out of the vents get ready bullshit. when you examine how the ai functions within in the game and the severe limits imposed on the alien it actually makes you mad how utterly wasted the potential was.
>>
>>377594554
>The original Alien film was so good because the executives (read it up, it's true) threw away the entirety of the original script and redrew it entirely.
>Now that he's too big to be criticised and have his shit ideas shot down by people who know better, Riddley Scott does whatever the fuck he wants - resulting in shit movies. He suffers from George Lucas Syndrome.
You're a complete twat and probably retarded.

You're implying Scott had anything to do with that script and it wasn't a shlock writer. The execs had real writers fix the script and Scott made it a good film with his directing.

Just because he later became shit doesn't mean his good works are now suddenly magically not his.
>>
I think the only games that it's even up against are AVP and Colonial Marines.

Ridley Scott is still a phenomenal director - anyone who says that Prometheus and Covenant aren't beautifully made films is a fucking liar. The problem is that he attaches himself to shitty scripts.

Door opening and lock picking simulator
>>
>>377595220
Prometheus is beautifully shot, I can't deny, and the abortion scene was certainly well done but I can't still take him seriously as a director when he thought running in a straight line from a rolling object and characters being inconsistent as fuck didn't hamper his film at all.
>>
>>377594857
To me it goes way past a bit too long. By about 19 hours.

It would be like if you played Portal, did the first puzzle, and then for the rest of the game you went through slightly different rooms with the exact same puzzle and the exact same solution, over and over. And also the game's length got tripled.

There was fucking NOTHING new, ever. I thought when humans and later androids showed up, they were going to spice things up, but no. It's the same shit with a different coating. You're still just crouching and hiding and maybe throwing a distraction occasionally to get from A to B.

This game was worse than bad, it felt like an insult.
>>
>>377595409
>I can't still take him seriously as a director when he thought running in a straight line from a rolling object and characters being inconsistent as fuck
I only watched this because of Charlize Theron.

I'm mildly perturbed about this. At least the VFX were neat.
>>
>>377595409
>when he thought running in a straight line from a rolling object
Ever seen someone get hit by a car? A lot of times the person will jump directly into the car's path instead of away from it. In that moment you aren't using critical thinking you're going off of instinct and reflex. Some people, especially someone as mentally unfit as whatsherface in the movie, will leave themselves in harm's way. The totally scattered characters there really isn't any excuse for.

What if the next game you are male and you can bone a female Xenomorph?
>>
>>377594124
But you're still overly long with a cornball ending.

Not to mention how much you screwed up by having the humans, synthetics be far more difficult to deal with than the Xenomorph. It got to a point in my playthrough where i'd just make as loud a noise as possible so the Xeno would come and clean up all the enemies in the area, then I could easily distract it with a noise grenade and progress.

Still not bad though.

It's a bad copy of Alien that tries to substitute the thematic depth of the original with a needlessly dark and dour tone. even David Fincher disowned the movie, the only people who pretend to like Alien 3 are people who want to appear smart for doing so.

If a sequel to Alien HAD to be made, James Cameron had it right, the original is so flawless trying to copy its formula was impossible. As flawed as Prometheus and Covenant are, at least they explore their own ideas.

>Also they have replaced the dog with ox for a host.

I've never understood this, though. Oxen are strong and built. The implication in the original cut (and pretty much treated as canon in every movie, game, and comic since) is that the Alien inherits the traits of its host species, so why is the alien nimble, fast, and lithe? It would make sense if it was still a dog, but the ox being a host is weird

>>377596420
Assembly Cut is something Fox executives put together so every film had an alternative cut on the Quadrilogy set. People who tout it as some original, lost version of the film and Fincher's true vision are uninformed.

that was just a hypothesis (about taking the traits of host), but oxen are, at least, quadrupedal, just as the xenomorph in the movie.

My guess, the thinking behind the assembly cut was "add everything that works, editorial-wise"

If a person walks into the street and a car veers towards them, when they notice it, yes, their instantaneous panic reaction sometimes will make them startle-jump in a random direction, often the one they absolutely don't want to go in.

When I was in the Navy, I was housed in a shitty barracks that had mice, and when I'd slam my hand or an object on the ground near them, they'd hop straight up, or even toward me before they ran. It's the same thing.

HOWEVER

In Prometheus, they're running from that ship for a good 10-15 seconds, which is more than enough time for logical thinking to kick in and for them to change their direction. It is not a startle-panic-jump situation beyond the first second or so.

Return of the Jedi has some real problems, man. It's like people only remember the throne room stuff and the space battle, both of which are superb, but the rest of the movie is pretty mediocre

>George rewriting huge portions of the script because he was afraid Han dying would affect toy sales, and bullying out Gary Kurtz and Lawrence Kasdan from the franchise when they challenged him on it
>Pacing issues up the ass; the movie has four introductory scenes, Jabba's Palace goes on for far too long, another 20 minutes to establish the ACTUAL plot of the movie, and then there's a good hour of wandering around Endor while nothing exciting happens
>Harrison Ford phoning it the hardest of his entire career besides Indy 4
>Luke and Leia being brother and sister is pretty much the dumbest, most half assed twist in the entire franchise
>Beginning of the slapstick humor and hard pandering to kids (Chewie's tarzan yell, Ewoks) that was basically a sign of what was to come in the prequels

The worst criticism you can level against TFA is that it's too similar in structure to the original. No, "muh disney kikes niggers feminism mary sue!" is not real critcism, neither is "reee Kylo is emo!"
