In no particular order:
Doom 3 when it came out was unlike anything I'd ever seen with all the grafix and jumpscares (as well as a couple more subtle freakiness).

Silent Hill 1 and 3 were so surreal and twisted, probably had the smartest of the scares I've seen.

The Resident Evil Remake on the GC took me forever to beat the first time because it felt so daunting. Barely enough bullets to get by and Crimson Heads galore made for a horrible, wonderful experience (and had the comfiest save rooms imo).

If I had to pick one that freaks me out to play the most it would have to be Cry of Fear. It's so abstract, dark, and fucked up that even though I know what happens next it still remains such an uncomfortable experience to play through. Fucking love that game.

I wish this game didn't kill Obscure Horror Corner's channel. He released his game (it has to be his game) then just fucked off.

His version was much better instead of the shitty, virus version everyone else played with all the edgy gore. Toy Maker was better than Sad Satan though, barring the obvious Silent Hill music killing the immersion.

It's a significant technological and graphical upgrade, which also plays way less like core-Half-Life, being now more of a homage to oldschool survival horror games with its tad slower paced movements, limited inventories and less-precise attacks unless you aim through sights.

That being said, I still found AoM a lot creepier. And harder to boot.
I'd suggest playing both, in the release order.

Note that there's TWO versions of the AoM: the original, much simpler yet no less creepy 2005 version, and the nicely overhauled and expanded Director's Cut- version from couple years later. I'd suggest starting with DC version, just to have a bit less "reskinned Half Life" feel and looks.

I know it's another flavor of the month indie horror, but the camera angles and random hallucinations really fuck me up. It's the only horror game I'm too scared to play, and I'm the kind of person that can deal with shit like penumbra, irisu syndrome, fatal frame, silent hill etc. without batting and eye.

I'll probably have to go with SH3. I played SH1, 2, and the majority of the Resident Evil series by then, but SH3 gave me the most anxiety. It's probably also due to the fact that I was much younger when I played it. Recently, I've found that Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion strikes a nerve, because I'm constantly on edge with that game despite having become pretty hard to scare.
But right now I'm playing Haunting Ground, and it's blowing my mind how this game didn't get more popularity. The characters in the game are unsettling, the puzzles are decent, and the premise of the game is pretty disturbing. Funnily enough, the map in the game is for some reason undecipherable to me, but the locations are unique enough that I quickly memorized the layout of the castle.

Haunting Ground definitely deserves more love.
I haven't replayed it because the game actually stresses me out. But it does the chase-and-hide action better than games of today and you actually collect useful items too instead of just batteries and bandages as in Outlast 2...
Silent Hill 3 has really great sound layout. The dogs howling, how someone moves one floor above you and it actually sounds like it is happening... man, there are so many good details in the games

The enemies in 3 are also designed to be competent. Closers do close your paths, dogs and pendeluems are fast enough to be dangerous etc but at the same time Heather both runs faster and has more leathal weapons than the other protagonists. Actually playing good matters in the game (use the baits btw, they are fucking great)
