So the Blue Shell used to stay grounded and it basically acted as a red shell that would jump from kart to kart starting with the kart in front of you all the way to the first place kart. Blue shells exist because the item-heavy nature of the game creates a positive feedback loop where the person in first tends to pull further and further ahead, since the people behind him are all fucking each other over with items.

What's unfair about it is when the guy in first only has a tiny lead he's barely holding on to, but still gets blue-shell'd.

Blue shells are tolerable because you can see it coming on the map, so if you react fast enough, you can maybe let 2nd place overtake you and take the hit for you.

Now Lightning. That's a pain in the ass. It comes at an instant, can't be countered besides star/ghost and kills any momentum you had in the race. Real buzzkill.

No it doesn't, doing the "drop to 2nd to avoid blue shell" thing is like my only defense against the blue shell as I try to 100% each cup on 150cc and 200cc. It fucking sucks. I was something I could do that was skill based to prevent a blue shell from hitting me. I know I can use a horn or a mushroom to counter one but I don't always have those when I need them

I have an ~80% first place finish rate and I've never held two coin items at once. If you were actually good at the game you would have figured this out by now.

If you're in first place and holding a lone coin, wait with using it immediately after you pick up a secondary item (while the roulette is still running). This ensures that your new item is a defensive one.
