Posting the most obvious one.

>2017 and we're STILL finding trails of audio logs left by dead people
>most people think it's a bioshock thing
>>377485918
It's a great level, wonderful atmosphere with the dark sectors and that library but against the whole vanilla compendium? It's not the best by far
Mario
Ultima
Wizardry
Tetris
Hunter
literally /ourgame/

>one of the first door codes in Prey (2017) is 0451
at least developers still remember to pay their respects to the godfather

No you're just an idiot

Nope

Arkane is former looking glass dudes, all their games are love letters to looking glass games and Prey is their shock game, is not big surprise
>>377486882
Who took up the flag? :(
>>377486882
please forgive my ignorance!

Final Fantasy VII.
After its success, all the japanese companies gave Nintendo the middle finger.

>Arkane is former looking glass dudes
No they aren't, I bet you think warren Spector made all the games singlehandedly too
>>377485184
Street Fighter II
>Invented the modern fighting game genre
>Invented combos
>Was the first game to have characters that play completely different from each other. This is the equivalent of having 7 different games in one back in 1992
The fact SF2 was a fighting game wasn't a big deal, it was the fact that it was asymmetrical, where you and your opponent didn't have the same moves. I'm kind of shocked that it took developers of FPS games this long to use it in that genre.

you are in denial if you don't think the souls series are one of the most influential games this generation.
>>377485184
PONG
Space Invaders
Pac-Man
Wizardry
Super Mario Bros.
Portopia Serial Murder Case
Dragon Quest
The Legend of Zelda
Tetris
Street Fighter II
Wolfenstein 3-D
Doom
Mortal Kombat
Super Mario 64
Final Fantasy VII
The Sims
Grand Theft Auto 3
World of Warcraft
Wii Sports
Minecraft
That's pretty close to a complete list of the most influential games. I'm not familiar with the RTS genre though, so I can't say for sure whether or not Warcraft 3 or StarCraft (or possibly something else?) belong on that list.
Also worth considering are Rogue, Ultima IV, Ultima Underworld, Halo, Resident Evil 4, and Pokémon.

Figure this thread is as good to ask as any:
I want to start keeping audio logs. I have about 60 or so floppy disks that I bought from thrift stores and want to put said logs on them, and to maybe scatter them around my college/city for people to find. However, I want the logs to have some kind of story and purpose behind them, as opposed to them just being me rambling on for 10 minutes straight.
Does anyone here have any advice for what I should record? I'm open to all sorts of ideas.
(Pic unrelated, btw)

"Popular" and "influential" aren't the same thing. The only thing it really influenced is popularizing modern settings in FPSes.
>>377487264
it didnt. doom clones started with that shit almost immediately
