I just realized that the "western hemisphere" consists exclusively of the Americas, while the "eastern hemisphere" is the rest of the world. On a side note, while /v/ uses "western" to describe any country that isn't Japan, since 4chan is an American website, Japan is technically a western country since they're closer to America by the west than the east.
