dumbass author had the dedication to add in a ton of dungeons and the creativity to add a bunch of new stories

only problem is the fucking idiot had to make every dungeon an endgame dungeon which destroys balance rather than making neat, smaller locations that fit into the geographical area and dont have loot that breaks the game as soon as you get it. For fuck's sake, I got full NCR ranger combat armor in a dungeon next to Mojave outpost and an Anti Material rifle in a vault next to Novac. He could have really improved the game world by just adding new, neat self contained small locations with a couple enemies and relevant stories that tied into the world, but he flew too close to the sun and the mod is shit.

Started playing the game a week ago. I'm currently in the outskirts of New Vegas, about to make the decision on what faction to join.

Explain what's wrong with supporting the NCR. They're the strongest faction in the Mojave, only they can keep the peace in such dire times. Of course it's a shame that they act out of line every so often and that they demand a lot of taxes, but they're by far the smallest evil of all.

if you dont mind exploits you can steal almost everyone the silver rush owns. Technically speaking, the most effecient gun with damage to cost ratio is a plasma caster with overcharged bolts. Youll be spending something like 1cap for 3 damage? So if you wanna hyper min max the plasma caster is dope. The Blocky plasma pistol is a real good side arm, the one arcade uses. Regardless, my main argument still stands. What are the other factions doing? For all I know, Caesar's Legion is a band of raiders and pillagers. From what I've heard about House (haven't actually met him yet), he only cares about keeping his Vegas bubble afloat.

And how can you blame the NCR for wanting money in return for their help? They need it so that they can pay their armed forces and keep their bureaucracy alive. You can't expect military help for free, especially not in the world of Fallout.

As for the expanding faster than they should. Yes, that's what I gathered as well. But isn't that something that can be fixed? Is a bit of mismanagment reason to abandon the biggest force for the restoration of civilized society in the Mojave?

The Legion is brutal and regressive, but at least they are efficient, and the lands they do govern are safe. You find out later about their whole design, and why you might want to join them, but Obsidian never got the time to show all the good parts about the Legion (the game was originally planned to have as much Legion content as there is NCR content).

But don't completely decide yet. Wait until you get to New Vegas. There are other players in the geopolitical scene, and you might want to work for them instead.

Until now, they've seemed like nothing short of Satan, and their cruelty has seemed more like something that was done for its own sake, not for startegic reasons, though I did suspect this to not be the whole picture.

The legion suffered a lot from missing content, and got the short end of the stick. They don't have nearly as much side content as the NCR does. There's a mod that changes up some vanilla quests to give more options to side with the legion. There's also no legion aligned companion either. Ulysses was suppose to be the legion companion but was cut and instead used in the dlcs.

Be sure and talk to Caesar when you get the chance to learn as much as you can about them.

Recharger rifle is one of the shittiest weapons in the game. It's piss-weak in the beginning when you have no skills/perks, and by the time you acquire some, you'll have better weapons available.

Dead money automatically clears your inventory so just go there with armor.
The other 3 have a lot of goodies you'll probably want to grab so go in with your favourite gun and a bunch of ammo for it.

Two of the DLC take away your gear for you, For Dead money I recommend a good chunk of points in Stealth and Medicine, also any weapon type that isn't explosives, I would advise being level 15 but it can be done lower. Also Gear is not an issue for Dead money

Honest hearts has a weight cap for entering so you really don't need the big stuff, It's a good place to have gun or unarmed skills in but otherwise you can do it around the same time as Dead Money

Old World Blues also lacks a gear requirement and has level scaling so you could theoretically do it at low levels, However the area is full of cancerous high HP enemies so you really want to pump energy weapons to not get completely fucked.

Lonesome road is the endgame, once you complete all the others you should be ready to do it, but I would recommend putting it off until level 30.

Dead money strips you of everything, though you start with a pretty good energy weapon.

Honest hearts has a weight limit of about 75, you can can increase it to about 100 if you talk to someone before leaving though.

Old world blues and lonesome road let you take everything you want with you, though you'll properly want to lighten your loadout anyway to grab the new stuff. Not as much of a problem for owb though, as you'll have somewhere to store stuff.

I finished Three-Card and all of the Airfield and got liked with the NCR so I could get that sweet Ranger armor and an Assault carbine.

Problem is, it's all smashed to shit. I had 4k caps on me, which was useless for repairing them (spent them on a STR implant so I could unlock Strong Back). Is my only option just to quickly get Repair to 90 so I can get jury rigging?

Also, can I use a Repair magazine right before I level up so I can unlock jury rigging with 70 repair?

You can easily farm caps by either raiding the junkie raiders since they drop energy weapons (they sell for a lot) or you can try your luck at the casino if your luck is higher than 7.
