So, I beat Persona 4 and 5.
Rather than go back and play Persona 1-3, I'm wondering - what's the best way to get into the SMT franchise? I'm a sucker for a good story, even with cliches.
I have a PC, PS4, and hacked 3DS.

>I'm a sucker for a good story
Then how did you manage to slog through both P4 AND P5????
might be outdated, I have like 3 of these saved in different parts of my computer and I just picked one at random.

Start at Nocturne, then SJ, VI and final
Then you can revisit the first 2 or play through the other spinoffs, namely Soul hackers, Devil Survivor, Digital Devil Saga and Raidou (in that order)

I'd start at digital devil saga, because I'm having a lot of fun with it.
Play SMT3 Nocturne first. Then look at SMT SJ, SMT4, SMT Digital Devil Saga 1/2, SMT Devil Summoner, the original SMTs on the SNES and the remakes of Digital Devil Story 1/2 on the NES for the SNES.
Thank you all.

Well, what can I say? The story is trash in all of those games. I consider Nocturne and Strange Journey to be the nest entries, but surely not because of the story.
Remember, shit taste is curable, but it gets more persistent with time.
Can I ask why you skipped Persona 3? It has the best story between it and P4 and P5. Emulate that shit nigga
Best entry point is SMT IV or III (Nocturne). Since you come from Persona, the latter is probably better for you.
Those aren't the best SMT games, but it will be easier to transition from them.
Then play IV A, SJ, and II. Or spinoffs obviously.
Hopefully we'll get V localized before fall 2019.

play P3. You already got a small glimpse of it in P4 anyways.

I'm looking forward to SMT5 being on the Switch so it'll look more like SMT3 then SJ or 4.

P3 has some good ideas but the execution is mediocre at best. The pacing is much worse than P4 or 5

Why do retards ask these kind of dumb fucking questions? If you're that interested and looking to invest in the series enough that you won't drop a game the first minute if it's immediately intuitive, then just start with whatever
Start with SMT1 if you feel like experiencing them in the release order or start with 4 or 4A if you want the latest edition
You could've just googled it and picked whatever title seemed the most interesting
