A fanboy was making a sorta sequel to Hotline Miami 2 as a labor of love.

Flash forward to Persona 5 being released in English on the PS3 and PS4 and his fangame of Hotline Miami eerily has similar poses and key frames to Persona 4 and Persona 5 cutscenes. Then people did basic super imposing and he actually traced images from Atlus' games for his own.

Since he's not making money by virtue of it being a fan game it's not outright worthy of massive scandal, but it is such blatant plagiarism that the author doesn't acknowledge as nothing more than "heavily influenced by Persona".

tldr; A classmate in class asks you to lend them your homework so they can copy, you agree but ask them not to make it obvious he's copying. The classmate ends up copying everything word for word. That's Midnight Animal.
