>Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's latest update is out now, and it makes a rather intriguing change: one Inkling Girl animation has been tweaked to remove a gesture that is deemed offensive in a number of countries.
>The expression--which involves raising a clenched fist while the other arm holds the raised bicep--was used by Inkling Girl as a celebratory sign. However, the "Italian salute" is considered offensive in some territories, including France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and much of Latin America.
>The gesture has been replaced by a simple fist pump, and photos from NeoGAF user Neiteio show the difference between the pre- and post-patch versions.
Thanks Italy
I'm proud of Nintendo for this move - it shows they're aware of sensitive issues at least... Somewhat?
It's a step in the right direction. It shows they're willing to come out from the old ways and acknowledge that society is changing, ultimately, for the better.

Imagine having falseflagging as a hobby
How miserable are you anon. please get better.
>>377357856
Except this gesture is not a recent change in society.
>>377357551
>doing a nazi salute is offensive
>raising a fist is offensive
I didn't even know this was offensive and I'm british
>>377357551
Wait the italian salute is just a raised hand?
New one is cuter.
>>377357856
Nintendo would have created the technology to patch a SNES game if it had an offensive enough gesture in it
>>377357551
Whats an italian salute?
>>377358330
It's where you whip out your spaghetti and meatballs
This was actually amazing because Nintendo included full patch notes. They're learning
>>377358449
Is this weird that this surprised me more than the censorship?
Nintendo really does love censorship lately.
What did they take out of Breath of the Wild after patch 1.1.1?
>>377358449
They only had patch notes for virtue signalling
Expect any patch that doesn't remove offensive content to be "improved general stability"
>>377358326
It actually already happened. Bowser made the same victory gesture in Mario RPG and it was edited before they released it outside Japan for the same reason. Question is, why didn't they do that ahead of time in this case?
new expression
As Beter Mcmuffin from my favourite show Houshold Person says, "Oh my god (he doesn't exist by the way :P) who the crap cares?"
>considered offensive in some territories, including France, Spain
>spain
i've lived on spain 30 years and never knew it was offensive
>>377359078
You actually typed this out
>>377359054
what was the old expression?
When I google it, I get little to nothing, a mixture of fists, nazi salutes, some greek antifa salute and a bunch of other stupid shit
>>377357551
Is this an Italian Salute?
>>377359540
Yea I think so, been in britain since ever and I've never seen this nor anyone mention it that was offensive
Squid Girl literally too fucking offensive.
Holy shit, I've been seeing this gesture for years and only now learned that it was an Italian thing. I always thought it was some generic Japanese pose.
>>377359839
>I always thought it was some generic Japanese pose.
It is when they use it, but it could easily been seen as an offensive gesture in countries the game was released with a kids rating.
>>377359839
>I always thought it was some generic Japanese pose.
I always thought of this
>>377358161
You've never seen the old "cock up the arse" symbol? No-one calls it an Italian solute, but you'll know it.
>>377360454
Some people never go outside you know so they wouldn't know.
>>377359839
The japs do it often but like >>377360454
Points out it was often used in a vulgar stance.
No one does that in America anymore but it was meant to be insulting back then.
