See Smash Bros and Mario Kart for examples of well known Nintendo Multiplayer games that have paid DLC.

Splatoon 2 will also likely follow the same model as ARMS and Splatoon 1.

It's a good method of keeping people coming back on a weekly/ bi-weekly basis too though.
