They have, or rather they curbed it. You can still wash, but all monsters drop these marbles, and you get 100 HP for every 10 you exchange. One of the beta testers said he had 7k HP as a Bowman at level 120, and if you play for long enough, you'll have 30k HP by the time you're ready for the really tough bosses.

pretty much. classes gain extra hp were level up (like 10-20) or so on top of original rates. Also, there are items that drop globally called peridots which you can trade in for +100 hp permanently. It has no limit too. So the more you play / farm those things, the more hp you get and will eventually reach 30k without any washing.

MMOs suffer from a problem all MP games have nowadays, nobody wants to communicate. It's not the gameplay that makes MMOs fun it's the feeling of going on an adventure and meeting new people. That's why there will never be another good MMO. I'm not really sure what changed, if I had to guess it's because gaming went mainstream.

Ok I'm looking through the skill changes and I can't tell if I'm the autistic one or whoever wrote up the change list is.
Almost all of the changes to skill % values aren't even different from the versions that are found in v83 and v62 servers. The only relevant (or actual) differences I can see are the skill delays for stuff like bstep, barrage,etc.

The grind from early Maple was so bad that it made me go out and explore and interact with people instead of leveling up. I kind of miss it. I think I played from late into the GMS beta to maybe a year before the pirate job got released

I remember going back a few years after the big bang happened, and you leveled incredibly quickly. Everyone also seems way less social nowadays, which also makes the whole experience less enjoyable.
They also took out real-time boat rides, which sucks. I get why they did it, but still

This is something I think about a lot. I think it has to do with the fact that MMO's don't really give a shit that you're playing with hundreds of other people, because you just end up killing 100 of a monster to complete a repeatable turn-in quest for exp farming by yourself.

Most permabeginners leeched EXP from Bishops prior to the Genesis nerf. It is pretty boring, but people honestly liked seeing you around. Yeah that basically sums most of it up. No game has suffered from power creep more than Maplestory; for every new thing/area they release, the last one becomes completely obsolete, which leaves over 90% of the content unused by anyone. Some of the most idiotic development you could think of.

Fucking disgusting. There should be hard caps so they can do certain content, but that is too much HP for a bowman when they advance to 4th job. Being barely able to survive a Skele magic hit should be enough at that level.

Actually utilize your bowman arsenal, not tank hits. That is the reason why many leeched bowmen quit when they tried to train at 4th job. They didn't know how to handle two hit deaths with whacking enemies at minimum range along with sub-par avoid stat coupled with lack of mobility.

This was also the time before abbreviations took over and people even came up with concept words to summarize their intent. I remember how good I actually became at typing descriptive, long sentences to really talk to people and carry on meaningful conversations about what was happening in the game or just expressing how funny or ridiculous something was with all of the face emotes. Wrong. Archers had Soul Arrow, which meant they never ever had to recharge.

Aside from that, yes, Assassins were better with single targets and had way better mobility. Marksmen were still more versatile though; they could freeze mobs around them and mob effectively both horizontally and vertically. They could also knock shit away, whereas Sins had to jump over everything.

Sadly you won't get any. New Maplestory has become so different and bad you will only feel more empty after playing it.

/v/ has started guilds on private servers many times over the years. They're basically older versions of the game that provide a far more accurate experience to what you remember than current Maplestory ever could.

Last time it was Rien and it's usually been MapleRoyals, but this new one coming up, SlimeTales, looks like it'll be really good.

The game itself was pretty fucking shit when the whole sense of wonder and discovery faded away, you kept playing to chat and hangout with the people you met along the way, knowing most people in a big guild and just chatting about the dumbest things was a blast, I wish I was 1/2 as socially competent as young me was.

Aside from the dieing popularity of maplestory and the fact that gms spend a couple hundred to gitgud or play reboot which is dead.

The current top private servers all suck, none of them seem to get idea right. MapleRoyals basically killed itself and maplelegends was never good.

The current high version servers are to easy. There's no reason for you to be able to reach a 2m+ range easily in less than a week without donating.
Ellinia offers custom content but still even after the wipe it took people less than a month to get back into doing trillions of damage per minute that insane.

Though I've always been a sucker for severs like Nido, Extalia that limited you getting to overpowered easily "cubing and enchants" and it never felt like you were progressing too quck

If you're interested in a more traditional nostalgic Maplestory experience, look up MapleLegends and get that. It'll give you what you remember, but if you play it for long enough (IE- getting up to Horntail), you'll soon see the dark side of old Maplestory, HP washing.
Rien is a solid alternative; it's the update with Cygnus Knights and Arans, and no HP washing required, but it's less populated than Legends.

SlimeTales will have a /v/ guild, but not sure it's the ideal private server to be your first cause it's KMS and has some custom features. If you just want to stroke your nostalgiaboner and don't mind starting on your own, go Legends.
