It kinda sort of reminds me of how everyone said that Playtonic was "the new Rare" and how it had "everyone who worked on Banjo-Kazooie". When in reality all they really had was the lead programmer (Chris Sutherland), some artists (Steve Mayles and Steven Hurst), and Grant Kirkhope (technically freelance).

Problem is, they don't have Gregg Mayles, the guy who actually designed the Banjo games, as well as DKC1 & 2 and Viva Pinata, and is the lead designer for Sea of Thieves, meaning he actually still works at Rare (flying in the face of the whole "EVERYONE LEFT RARE 4EVER AGO" narrative). Basically if you liked any of those games I mentioned, then Gregg's your man. He was the one who designed the worlds in the Banjo games and also wrote the dialogue.

I think his absence at Playtonic played a big part in why Yooka-Laylee paled in comparison to the Banjo games. He had some interesting things to say on his Twitter a few days ago. He said that he regretted making Banjo-Tooie's levels as big as they were and if he were to design a new Banjo game, he'd make the worlds smaller and compact like in the original games (https://twitter.com/Ghoulyboy/status/862789150793183232). Considering how YL suffered a similar issue with its worlds, it's a crying shame he couldn't have been there for it.

Honestly i don't remember where, but the shit of inafune talking up he wanted it to be his multi-media baby at the start of it's development, and then all this shit about how the anime production went no where and no talk of toys being picked up by anyone, it kept getting delayed further and further, afterwards whenever all these same things started getting picked up for MN9 the cancellation of Kaio happened. It makes sense that if he couldn't make his cute baby animal thing into a sensation, then riding the megaman coat tails surely couldn't fail.
