How can anyone give a shit about lore in a game such as this?

It's the most immersive breaking shit to see a character be killed over and over again only to come right back at a spawn point for no reason other than "video game". You regularly see characters with conflicting interests on the same team and multiple versions of the same character fighting each other.

What the hell is the point of the lore in OW? Every element revealed to us in their lavishly produced shorts are extremely vague and only serve to imply, never explain, a greater conflict behind what we see. And it will continue to be vague, because what is there even to talk about in a universe like this? OW literally has nothing to give outside of a vague apocalypse backdrop, a mountain of Waifus for the masses to ship and an army of Blizzdrones who weep everytime they see Bastion beeping to a bird while sad piano music plays in the background.

None of this matters in the game. None of this is even brought up in the game - All the lore that supposedly drives these characters and the world they live in is delegated to mediums beyond the game itself.

It is a shitty and lazy use of storytelling in an interactive medium.

The graphic novel was cancelled because Blizzard marketing decided it would cost too much and market too little. The same reason Valve doesn't do Hat Fortress 2 comics anymore. Publishers prefer to keep their money instead of blow it on comic books only a handful of nerds care about.
