I think the concept of the Switch is pretty cool, but I won't be getting one unless a lot more games that I would like to play come out on it. I've always been an idort, usually leaning on Sony and Nintendo with a little bit of PC on the side, but I skipped out on the WiiU because there were only like 3 or 4 games I wanted to play on it. Anyway, you can claim nu/v/ hates everything, PS4 and PC gets trashed on just as much, Although I don't really see many people talk about the XBONE at all.

I own a Wii U. I bought it in the christmas of 2013.
Earthbound was the only game I played and enjoyed on the system. I had NSMBU but it did nothing different from NSMB Wii. Didn't really start to play it until MK8 came out in May 2014. Then Hyrule Warriors came out and I sunk many hours into that. Smash 4 kept me occupied for some time as well.
Then 2015 happened. Treasure Tracker was a nice bit of fun. Splatoon was great and I consider it to be one of the best games of the last generation. But after E3 2015, the system was dead. There was fucking nothing. Devil's Third? Subpar. amiibo Festival? Fuck you, not the game you wanted. Super Mario Maker was OK but the novelty wore off after a month. But Xenoblade X made that year less painful because I loved the first game and I loved the exploration in X.
2016 - home of such shit games as #FE, Star Fox Zero, Star Fox Guard and Colour Splash.
This year? Only Breath of the Wild. But anyone who never owned or heard of a Wii U would buy a Wii U just to play it.
It was shit. 2013 didn't have any system sellers, 2014 was the best year to be a Wii U owner, 2015 made Wii U owners want to kill themselves and by 2016 it was already collecting dust.
It's not "better than the Switch" - a console which came out in March - just because it has a bigger library than a console that hasn't even been out for a year. For fuck's sake, let's end this superiority complex both sides have.

As much as I hate those Sony games at least you could pick what game mode you wanted, weren't locked into one until you reach Level 10, had no choice in what arena you wanted to play in and when you did get the other game modes couldn't even choose them.

It's a good game, but I cannot even fathom how and why people would pay full retail price for this unless they give the player more agency. I would never have bought the first game if it didn't come with my Wii U.

The initial shipment seemed to have the only major problems, I think they fixed the left joycon sync issue which was the major one. The dock scratching and "whole system bending due to heat" were fake, at the very least the bending one was. The dock scratching is possible but requires you to rake the system against the inside with the screen.

That said I feel like they need more rpgs on the console right now. I feel that Splatoon, MK8D, and ARMS should have been launched titles with zelda as the core game. Not him, but if the game's MP is that dead after such a short period of time, I would have regretted spending the money on it in the first place. I value longevity, I want to be able to pick that game up in 5+ years and enjoy it just as much as I would have the day it was released. Local MP and offline content are more important than online content, that's where the longevity comes from. I can pick up and play so many multiplayer games from previous generations today and still enjoy them, but I don't see that being possible with 8th gen and on simply because it's all online-only bullshit on a timer, I'm basically renting the multiplayer.

The screen scratching is a fair possibility since it's plastic to be drop resistant over glass for scratch resistance, but there are tempered glass screen protectors made specifically for the system. The bending thing was fake.
Actually past the initial launch with everyone spamming the same crowbcat video I've never seen anyone complaining about theirs, and mine hasn't had any joycon desyncs or anything.

But you're right, most new games don't offer that longevity, and that's the fucking problem. Not cutting local multiplayer and co-op from virtually every game would largely solve the problem. I skipped many recent multiplayer games because they're online only and die within a few months.

For Honor, for example, could have been a fun game to play casually with friends, but since it's online-only, I see absolutely no reason to bother with it because I both can't play with friends locally and being online-only means the playerbase will likely not be around for long.

If PS4 and Xbone offered more in terms of local and offline play, I'd probably have one of them. Wii U was the only one worth getting, and even then some MP games like Splatoon still didn't have what I wanted, so I skipped those too. 8th gen is just full of "rented" multiplayer games that will be unplayable when online communication is no longer possible, and that was never the case before. I can boot up Halo CE on my OG Xbox and play some MP whenever I want, but Halo 5 MP is literally on a timer and will be unplayable when Xbone is cycled out. This is what I have a problem with, a seeming disregard for value retention in pursuit of micro-shekels.

I plan on getting one eventually primarily for that reason, but all it has that I want right now is Zelda so I just got it for Wii U. Also already have MK8, but ARMS looks fun and I may get Splatoon 2 if it has 4-player splitscreen, I skipped the first because it all it had was a 1-on-1 local mode that requires a second controller I don't have.

I think local play is extremely important, even if servers are gone I can still get whatI want out of the game. I'm more likely to buy a game with lots of offline and local content because I know I don't HAVE to play it right away to get the most out of it, I can come back to it whenever I want and still enjoy it. I have plenty of games to play and I'm not necessarily going to jump right into every new release, and the fact that it may not even be worth owning by the time I want to actually put time into it just devalues the game as a whole, I may as well just ignore it at that point.
