There's also the PC Gaming Wiki pages in case you run into issues with known fixes.

They're absolute masterpieces, but the companies that own the rights don't actually know who owns WHAT rights, so they're not able to sign a contract allowing GOG to release them legally. Which is a huge, huge shame.

Spy FPS games. Which is a super freaking rare subgenre.

They're a little bit like Perfect Dark crossed with Monolith FPS games like Alien vs Predator 2 in terms of mechanics, with a huge dose of Austin Powers style comedy tossed into the mix. Released the same year as PD, but clearly influenced heavily by GoldenEye.

Relatively few games bothered trying to follow in GE's footsteps, and Monolith arguably did the best job. Better than Eurocom with Nightfire, even.

Are you sure? I don't see anyone complains right now? Beside, /v/ is not just one guy.
>>
>>377308517

Not really. At the moment WB is of the opinion that they think they own the rights but Activision may have a stake. Activision isn't sure but couldn't be bothered finding out and isn't prepared to just waive any ownership they may have. It's basically in limbo.

The reason why Activision doesn't know the situation is because they had nothing to do with NOLF, they inherited it from Vivendi who inherited it from Sierra. Apparently the contract, which only exists in hard copy, have been filed away in storage god knows where and finding it may require weeks, even months, of someone spending all day every day digging through storage. They just aren't willing to pay someone to do that. I do wonder why Monolith doesn't have a copy of the contract, though.
>>
>>377309686
>I don't see anyone complains right now?
Old games are exempt from that.

A solid percentage of jokes in NOLF one is based on people (men) constantly underestimating Cate because she's a women. They doubt her capabilities, all the codephrases used to greet her are cringy pickup lines, one of the characters is a American action hero stereotype that doesn't take her seriously (because she's a woman) and is comical and stupid. 2 also makes fun of American Cold War attitudes, though it makes fun of commies too.

>>
>>377310592

Enemies only respawn when you fail to stop someone you have alerted from sounding the alarm.
>>
>>377310298
I completely forgot about the black general even being there, to be honest (probably because he was the voice of reason and thus boring). I loved the white manlet general, though.

>>377310592
Just lower the difficulty, the game isn't as good as 1 but it still has some funny and fun moments. The first time you visit India is my favorite part, no combat, lots of sneaking and finding secrets and stuff. You just have to solder through Siberia.

NOLF always was a hard motherfucking game. James Bond Cate is not. On the highest difficulty, even a few hits is enough to kill you, but luckily the enemies aren't spongy either.
>>
>>377311149
>I thought Siberia was the best part of the game
How? It's combat-combat-combat, which is easily the weakest part of NOLF 2.I think I tried stealthing it but I was bad at it so I just ended up running around and shooting dudes with mah AK. And it's so fucking long, and the only funny things are some soldiers' convos and letters. The joke with the supercomputer was really good, though.

India just has so many fun stuff comparatively.

>>377311219
If you can't enjoy a top tier game like NOLF because of feminist undertones, you're a cancer on this board.

>>377311295
Not him, but I wouldn't mind.
>>
>>377311149
Forced stealth was just in that HARM office or whatever, right? It's fun playing with the Pajeet police anyway.
>>
>>377311027

To be honest, it's been a while, but I remember playing through using stealth wherever possible and just never having an issue with respawning enemies pissing me off. I do remember there being some action sequences where they seem to spawn indefinitely, you're just meant to battle your way through.
>>
That face when the first time you encounter a supersoldier
>>
>>377311149
Most of NOLF 2 is tedious shit. The first level is the only one with decent stealth and action gameplay. The rest are either not worth bothering to stealth, involve too much running back and forth, or both.
>>
is mouse aim in 2 super wonky for anyone else? it's almost unplayable with how much it bobs whenever you move the cursor horizontally.
>>
>>377303969

welp you're getting bullied now. I was around that age, maybe even younger when I played it you ass hole. (Albeit, my dad worked in IT and has friend had cable internet 20ish years ago that was insanely fast so i had pirated versions of NOLF1/2 on disc and loved both of them.

But seriously give it a go, some of the weapons/gadgets were the coolest things ever and it pisses me off games have not acheived anything remotely like it since.

I recently played through NOLF for the first time and I was kinda disappointed honestly.

The gunplay isn't particularly great, the AI is pretty inconsistent, (sometimes they can see you on the other side of the map, sometimes you can be standing right next to them and they won't notice), a lot of the weapons feel the same, going through gadgets is cumbersome, the insta-fail stealth missions are fucking terrible, the vehicle sections are pretty shitty because you have to stop every 20 seconds to shoot the enemies and the stealth isn't very good. Also some of those cutscenes go on for WAY too fucking long, and there's painfully little to look at, usually it's just shot/reverse-shot with two or three NPCs who do little more than move their lips.

NOLF 2 also disappointed me but for different reasons. First off the game controls like ass, mouse sensitivity is too high even when I bump it to low (also it goes to shit if you're moving crouched), Archer's movemed speed has been significantly reduced for some reason, and the framerate just fucking DIED when I went to India. The respawning guards were a fucking mistake, made stealth pretty fucking pointless (oh aside from those insta-fail stealth sections that is, can't fucking get enough of those).

The best I can say about NOLF is that it has an interesting premise, a great artstyle and doesn't take itself seriously. The execution itself is just ... really flawed
>>

AW SHIT SON

>>
>>377313807
The gameplay is passable. You play NOLF for the gags, tone and to just have a good time. It's by no means perfect, but it is fun.
>>
>>377313807
I'd accept this for a first time playthrough in 2017, but man when I was a kid the entire game was amazing. You gotta remember that at the time most of the flaws you pointed out were kinda non existant, purely because everything else in the game wow'd you over. The only games I had played prior to this were like return to castle wolfenstein 3d or some shit. ( i mainly remember there being a total of 4 (?) guns and the last mission was you vsing some roid ragin hulk with 2 gatling guns.) damn now i'm getting nostalgic and off topic, my god this thread made me remember my childhood
>>
>>377314720
>>377314712
Fair enough, I supposed it's not fair to judge an early 3D FPS game by modern standards since a lot of them haven't aged very gracefully.

However I didn't really find the humor in NOLF1 amazing. Some of the jokes just went on for way too long, like the dirty catchphrases. NOLF2 did a much better job in my opinion, though I never made it past the India level because it pissed me off too much

This.
I don't even want to start to imagine what retarded direction they would try and take this series to with all those mentally ill and clearly out of place fucks working in the industry these days with their political agendas and social messages.
They would take everything that made the originals so charming and good and twist it into some corrupted current zeitgeist trash. It would be a catastrophy.
Just look at Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Mafia 3, THIAF etc. The list gets longer and longer.
The modern generation of game developers currently working in the video games industry are absolutely oblivious about what made games in the past so good.

What does this remaster even entail? Additional graphical effects and extended draw distance with the same old assets, same old AI, same old physics from 1998, does that justify requiring the CPU power of an i5? And why does the game still require so much resources even if you disable all the remastered effects? Are you satisfied that you can run it at 60 FPS 1080p? > Kuperman said that in November 2014, several months after their trademark filing, they found out that Warner Bros. had filed for an extension in opposition to Night Dive's filing. "This isn't saying, oh [you] can't have the trademark," Kuperman explained, "it's just that they said, 'Well, we want more time to look over whether we have any potential objection.'"

>Meanwhile, Night Dive had been talking with Warner Bros. independently to try to get a deal nailed down. "We wanted Warner involved with this," Kuperman told me, "so we said, there's two ways we could work together. First, and our preference, is that we would do a licensed deal. We would pay them some amount of money up front to show that we're serious, and then we would give them a backend share of revenues. And if that didn't work for them, if they wanted to be the publisher of record, we'll still do the development and the optimization of the game, and instead of our giving them a backend share, [they] give us a backend share. In either case, it seemed to us that they were gonna be making money that they wouldn't have been making otherwise, with a minimum amount of effort.

Warner Bros and Activision own the rights, that is known, but neither party is willing to spend the resources to get the game released, despite Night Dive having basically done all the work already and all they needed is the license to release.

I wouldn't even say gameplay. FEAR has excellent mechanics, but very little variety. NOLF's mechanics aren't as tight as FEAR's, but the sheer variety keeps the games more interesting from start to finish and when replaying.

are the other localizations included?

That's why NOFL is the opposite of FEAR: The style, plot, and characters are so good and charming that the gameplay doesn't matter.

>>377324462
To put him simply, an FPS pleb
>>
>>377324462
Great for the exposure of so many FPS games, but he complains too much about difficulty in games and isn't very willing to play a game according to its rules.
>>
>>377324692
>>377324741
Fair enough. I think he can articulate his opinions fairly well enough though.
>>
>>377324462

He's bretty gud.

Compared to most other reviewers like IGN and CGR, sure, but many reviewers come down to a summation of annoyances instead of a cohesive and structured analyse.

>the gunplay isn't particularly great
I can't completely agree with that. Sure it doesn't even come close to some modern games but landing pistol headshots in NOLF1 is some of the most fun I've ever had in an FPS. Mostly thanks to the sound and the death animations.

Would people be interested in a similar channel for action games like DMC and Onimusha or TPSs like Vanquish and The Suffering?
>>
>>377325552
I'm sure many people would be interested

NOLF stealth is bizarre. And I kind of enjoyed combat, mowing down people with an AK. Humor was pretty one-note most of the time. There weren't any memorable characters except for pilot.
>>
>>377325552
Why not. If you're planning to do it, what are you going to lose.

So why do my cut scenes end prematurely in NOLF1?

How would I cap the framerate? Also my aiming is jittery.

I'm a fan, but he bitches about things I'd never even bat an eyelash for. As another anon said, he has this tendency to play any game his own way, instead of adapting to the rules.

Found it, you have to limit FPS to 60 in game. I used Bandicam, it's free, and works great.

Cate (or was it Kate) was probably my first real video game crush. As a little kid I used to think Sonya, Milena and Kitana were hot, but I think Cate was the first one I masturbated to.

Anyway, great games and great humor, from what I remember at least. Favorite memory is fighting some ninja bitch in a house that's inside a tornado. Oh that and the funkadelic moon base. I also remember how disappointing and Contract J.A.C.K. I was.

she might be only attractive because she has retro hair and clothes, /v/ might hate a modern version of Cate dressed up in contemporary party gettups and a modern hairdoo.

At this point, I´ll just wait for a real rerelease. If SWAT4 managed to get out of copyright limbo, NOLF will too in time.
