Homefront The Revolution is a good-slash-great game that fell victim to "I heard it was trash/it was completely broken at launch" memes that persisted long after 99% of the game's problems were fixed.

The PS4 Pro implementation is decent, too. 2560 x 1440 in the main game, 4K in TimeSplitters 2. Seemingly holds 30fps on all console platforms. This is a game that had Far Cry 3 on PS3-grade performance in May 2016, which makes it all the more impressive.
>>
>>377284989
I heard this game was made with PC in mind.
>>
>>377285283
That does seem somewhat likely. But the evidence is circumstantial. As a general rule, though, CryEngine = PC-oriented game. Plus the developers added extra settings to the PC version after release, such as HUD toggles, and a slider that allows you to force shadow casting.

Bearing in mind that Assassin's Creed is great, Call of Duty is great, and originality in videogames is overrated, how is it trash? Also, why does nobody ever mention Crysis when the game is clearly a Crysis successor?

I'm at the red district and this is one of the most boring game I have ever played.

Wait did somebody say timesplitters 2?
>>
>>377285907
It's a lake. There are no waves. Also, they tessellate and parallax map the shit out of everything else. The game creates metal catwalks by tessellating a flat surfaces to look like it has depth.

No, they said Urban Chaos 2.

That's Ashgate, the second Yellow Zone.

It's coincidentally the zone where the game suddenly becomes both extremely ambitious and buggy. The number of random NPC conversations in Ashgate is crazy, especially the ones tied to random NPC behaviors like having a BBQ, doing Tai Chi, playing ball, making drug deals, having impromptu neighbour watch meetings, pruning flowers, and a bunch of other stuff you can play the game for 50 hours without ever noticing.

Ashgate is also the zone where the game's general quality control takes a hit. But arguably the monumental increase in atmosphere makes up for it.

The atmosphere is good I won't deny that, especially when the district is going to shit bit by bit with the increase revolte score.
The gameplay is boring, nothing feel satisfactory, I just feel boredom when taking a control point on the map in les than 2 minutes after killing 5 guys.
>>
>>377287924
>The gameplay is boring, nothing feel satisfactory, I just feel boredom when taking a control point on the map in les than 2 minutes after killing 5 guys.
Well, the game isn't really about killing people. It's like a walking sim except-slash light puzzle game except sometimes people shoot at you and you shoot them back.
Perhaps they should have made combat almost impossible, preferably by disarming the player whenever they entered a new zone, and put a bigger focus on photography. There was an entire questline they removed where a journalist named Alec tasked you with documenting KPA brutality as evidence. The only remains of this in the final game is the "Journalist's Apartment" in Ashgate.
>>
They should have made the antagonists Chinese like they originally intended.
>>
>>377288210
>They should have made the antagonists Chinese like they originally intended.
Wrong game. Plus the Chinese don't work as antagonists because the entire point of the KPA in the story is that they have a small army. They're not openly militaristic, although they do provide the world's weapons. They're a "peacekeeping force" officially.

Fuck off paid shill faggot.
>>
>>377284989
nope, actually it isnt.

its the worst of the open world kind where you have to take over the entire map section by section

same reason why i didnt finish AC Syndicate. fuck this terrority bullshit
>>
>>377288423
The first Red Zone is kinda bleh, though. The environmental puzzles -- and remember that this is basically where most of the development creativity seems to have gone -- become more and more complex as you proceed through the game. The puzzles in the prison district are the hardest. Especially the hotel one.

>its the worst of the open world kind where you have to take over the entire map section by section
This is completely untrue. You can complete the main campaign in around four hours if you sprint from one mission to the next. Taking over the Red/Yellow Zones is almost completely optional. But skipping them is probably a bad idea because the devs clearly put a lot of love into them. Figuring out how to get inside a building that is completely devoid of enemies so you can claim it is 90% of the game.

It's not like GTA: SA or AC: Syndicate where you have to fight your way through each district.

>same reason why i didnt finish AC Syndicate. fuck this terrority bullshit
In AC: Syndicate, you were forced to take over the entire map. In Homefront: TR, there is maybe... three buildings you have no choice but to capture?

Homefront: TR looks like a Ubisoft game at a glance, but its design philosophy is for the most part the complete opposite.

i thought it nailed the guerilla stuff really well, hitting a convoy and then ducking into city allies was really cool
they really shat the bed with the weapon swapping stuff though

tesselate:
the mesh gets more detailed based on a map
parallax:
fake depth via using multible layers that pan. Kind of like old sidescroller backgrounds.
Tesselation creates silhouette
parallax is normalmap+ but completely different technology.

You fucking what? Homefront The Revolution is a tedious fucking bore.

All your weapons except the ordinary rifle are fucking awful, the recoil is ridiculous and the accuracy even worse. There are barely any fun attachments and the game itself plays like any generic Ubisoft chore. Go to location, "liberate" it, continue until you win. The story is so fucking bland with the only interesting character being the black doctor guy because he provides a somewhat fresh perspective.

The game itself is ugly. It's just browns and beige and grays and dark reds. The only exception being that traitor zone. Infact, the highlight of the game was fucking playing Timesplitters 2 on that one easter egg arcade you can find.

Fuck me even the original Homefront was more interesting than this tripe. Worst 14€ I spent.

In your opinion, what effect is being used here? The steel grating is clearly not proper geometry because it aliases terribly without TAA, and also wet surface shaders behave as though there were no holes there.
>>
Is the game worth 10$?
>>
>>377293371
It sounds to me like you were expecting a completely different style of game?

>All your weapons except the ordinary rifle are fucking awful, the recoil is ridiculous and the accuracy even worse.

That's completely intentional. Your guns kick like crazy, at least until you upgrade them, and this forces players to behave a bit more tacticool-ish. Strafing while shooting completely destroys accuracy. You can unload an entire pistol clip at a KPA peacekeeper at moderate range and you won't hit him/her because you were moving too much. Plus there's no crosshairs, of course.

>There are barely any fun attachments and the game itself plays like any generic Ubisoft chore. Go to location, "liberate" it, continue until you win.

The difference is that most of that stuff is completely optional, unlike Ubisoft games. And because it's optional, it's no longer busywork but rather something the player can enjoy in their own time.
>The game itself is ugly. It's just browns and beige and grays and dark reds.
A game can be graphically beautiful while also taking place primarily in colorless bombed out hellholes. Maybe you just don't like the "everything is a bombed out ruin, and it's overcast for 75% of the game because it rains every five minutes" aesthetic?

The final DLC takes place in the great outdoors as a change of pace, but of course the biggest criticism of that DLC is there's no open world and no strike points to capture. It turns out that most people really, really like wandering around an open world capturing random buildings with nobody guarding them. I half-agree, but I think Beyond the Walls was the best FPS experience in years.
>>
>>377293941
If you've got a console, there's a free demo. It's essentially the entire game except you can't play the campaign past the first zone.
>>
I liked it. I probably got a good 20 or so hours out of it which was well worth the few dollars I paid for it off of a key site.
