>Jumpscares: The Game
when will games finally evolve beyond shit tier scare tactics?
>>377275234
I see you've never played MSC then
It's horror, existential horror
>>377275234
I just beat this today.
When was the jumpscare?
>>377275234
anon, just cause enemies hide and ambush you doesn't mean they're jump scares

Few games have surpassed System Shock 2's use of audio design to impart a feeling of dread and fearful anticipation.
A good successor to System Shock in terms of gameplay systems and level design as Prey might be, it is certainly not in terms of audio design and horror elements.

Just upgrade the shotgun and run speed and treat the game like an action shooter.

The only thing scary about that game was the fuckawful combat.
I have superior options if I want to awkwardly swing a wrench at enemies much faster than me.
>>377275234
Yeah, FUCK those jump scares.
I'm just minding my own business rummaging through someones office and find a computer with FOUR (4) emails. Honestly some people just want to watch the world burn

this
I liked the paranoid feeling initially, but then it wore off and got annoying
When will you finally stop being a retard and see what's in front of you?
Just play the way the devs intended, OP.

Probably not until games start off with a psych evaluation to find out what you're afraid of and tailor the content for that playthrough for you.

>audio design
>jarring techo music
I liked ss2 but god damn it was so out of place
>>377277591
what's the "subversive" way to play this game? non-violent? not killing any alien?
>>377277705
Fuck off, System Shock 2's music fits the game to a tee. Intense drum 'n' bass for the faster paced sections, ambient electronic for the moodier parts. Incredible soundtrack.

When that dead body falls out of the door
Super spooky
>>377277705
> jarring
yeah right, the first time you fight a xenomorph while Med1 plays is great.

How long is this game for an average playthrough?
>>377275234
The alternative to 'jump scares' is to slowly build up a sense of dread and hopelessnes in the world that takes a lot of time and skill.

Or have intimidating enemies that aren't pushovers
