It's a team vs team FPS, fun action via fun abilities. It has various roles, Attack, Defend, Tank and Support. Even if you're not a great shot there's ways to contribute to your team via healing them and tanking/supporting other ways.

Lots of cool characters, guys, gals...a gorilla...robots...things.

Various game modes, attack/defend 2 point capture, CTF, payload and KotH etc and has a custom game mode so you can come up with your own and edit hero stats if you want. The map maker is being worked on and won't be released for some time unfortunately.

Pic has all the playable characters in the game, new one added every 3 months or so. Buying the game gets you all characters permanently including future ones, the only thing paying extra can get you is loot boxes which contain skins and other cosmetic items, but you can earn loot boxes just by playing. You get one every time you level and it takes under an hour to level. First time players level 1-21 super fast.

I had over 2500 hours in TF2 and I only got like 330 in Overwatch atm but I love OW a lot more. TF2 got frustrating after they refused to patch or balance characters liked they needed to over the years, some minor tweaks coming every 6 months or something where as OW is constantly adjusting and balancing.

TF2 was amazing fun in its time, but it was neglected and didn't get the support it needed outside of hats. The community made maps are still awesome, until Overwatch releases their map maker (which is still in the works and a long ways off they said) TF2 will have that over OW admittedly.

Of course its a real option, you do not have to give a shit about whatever other people tell you. Team Chat is always cancer so you're best not joining it, but if the text chat also gets terrible you can disable it in the social menu.

League is different, but you can still /mute all. The only difference is that people are stupid enough to A: Leave in the lobby if you pick something they dont like or B: Throw the match when the game starts. You can still play the game you want to, they're the ones that are going to get punished (There are still rules you have to follow, mainly with the dynamic queue system)

Balance is nowhere near as bad as TF2 was for instance. And yeah, I'd like to change team size too, but nothing can be done about that atm. You can choose what maps you play via custom. I really don't see how the mechanics are mind numbing at all compared to TF2, it's the same shit. The only thing more complicated that TF2 has is advanced rocket jumping and 99% of the playerbase can't handle surface to surface rocket jumps that take you across the whole map.

Especially since launch Pyro had no secondary fire and Spy couldn't gain cloak from ammo...and those character CONTINUED throughout ALL OF TF2'S life continued to be considered the worst characters in the game.

I've been accurately calling balance changed for years and intimately understand these games, TF2 was FAR...FAR worse than OW. They both have characters that rarely see tournament play, but the OW ones see more of it than TF2's and even got buffed in rare (and admittedly brief) instances to 100% viable and debatable must picks like Bastion's rework. Something that NEVER happened in TF2 in it's long lifespan.

Spy and Pyro are rare gems competitively. But I'm going to assume you never played at higher levels in either of these games...in which case your opinions on high level play are ridiculous and unwarranted as you won't be effected by the balance of these changes anyway.

Should run decently, I have a weaker laptop, i7 3632qm, 8gb ram and a 7670m 1gb and it runs ow on low with medium textures at around 40 fps at 1366x768. Your laptop should be capable of 40-50 on medium at native resolution, maybe higher. I'm fairly sure a 940m is much stronger than my laptops gpu.
