I wanna create an RPG that breaks expectations but how the hell do I even do that now? Feels like Toby went out of his way to do every unorthodox thing he could think of. If I do meta shitm I'll be compared to UT. If I do something overtly emotional or based in positivity, I'll be compared to UT. If I want to skimp on graphics, which isn't really an if since I don't have the money or time to devote to learn graphical skill, I'll be compared to Undertale.

As inspiring as Undertale was for making me believe I could make a game almost on my lonesome, it's just as much demotivating. Doesn't help I'm not creative and haven't played many RPGs outside of big name titles. Do I just resign myself to a boring existence and accept I was too late to enter the race?

The Asgore fight and Omega Flowey right afterwards was the best part of the game easily. It's a shame, though, that the whole section is piss-easy once you knew what you were up against.

I understand why the fight sort of needed those checkpoints, because the game force closing and requiring you to start it up again every time you die is actually kinda fucking stupid, it's not far off from when a game genuinely crashes and you have to start up and reload an older save. Even worse in a shmup, a genre that likes to hurry you back into the action after dying.
The game basically gimped a potentially good fight scenario for some novelty, but whatever I enjoyed it at the time.

Basically, a two character RPG that's about bonds and two individuals becoming part of a greater group. Some sort of ATB system would allow for more freedom like allowing you to choose to guard another character for a period of time, but it'd be clunky to try to control two characters at a time like that. I think Undertale is a great game and the Sans fight is the best moment. It pushes the theme of determination to its natural conclusion. Due to the nature of the fight you will lose a lot of times, it's just too fast and crazy for anyone outside of shmup gods beat in less than 10-20 tries, but since he does the exact same thing every time, every single person is capable of beating him through pure memorization and pattern recognition.

He's the only boss that takes nothing but pure determination to defeat. I think that's great and is so appropriate for "real final boss".

Asgore is an amazing fight and was my favorite moment of my first playthrough, since I went pacifist first. But the Sans fight really pushed the theme of the game to a whole new level for me. Plus Sans mocking me with how many times he had killed me was great.

That's just my 2 cents on it.

Megalovania is also my favorite track in the game.
