are you the type of autist who plays single-player in fighting games, Smash and Counter-Strike?

For a game with no story mode, the Nintendo Direct spent a lot of time hinting at there being a story behind all the characters and the mystery of their powers. I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

Not OP but I really liked it, I played through it with all the amiibos as well. I effectively played it over 4 times.

They are probably going full deepest lore with it similarly to Splatoon. I think there is a lot more room for originality here however.

There is no "story mode" perse, but I'm sure they could cram a solid plot into a 10 stage campaign

Anyway Grand Prix is basically the "story mode"

All fighting game story modes are just the base game with maybe some cutscenes sprinkled in between to make it more interesting, but it doesn't change the fact that the game doesn't change.
