I quite liked how the lyrics were there to crush your hopes and dreams of beating it. Just reading the lyrics, it's full of ways to make you feel inadequate. And when you beat Vergil for the first time, the battle theme changes. And the lyrics are still there to put you down, but now, it acknowledges you're there to beat that game, and again, the lyrics show this. It's cool. It's how Cerberus is known to be that boss to slap your shit. Casual filter. And when you listen to his theme, it's just a constant barrage of negativity, that you, as a player, are nothing compared to the might of DMC3. And it's so much worse when he does kick your ass.

3 is a prequal to 1, but 3 does like to make call forwards alot. You won't be confused but the "forshadowing" that pops up now and then will go over your head.

That said, the controls are customization and the engine's alot smoother, so you should have no trouble picking it up. Definetly play 3SE first, then move on to 4SE if you liked it.
