All I know is Harvey and Raph had wanted to make their homage to System Shock for quite a while now, and being given carte blanche with Prey, they jumped at the chance. Their whole catalog of games are their love letters to the games they've been passionate about for many years and in some cases even worked on, like Ultima Underworld (Arx), Thief, Deus Ex, Half-Life (Dishonored and Dark Messiah to some extent, it's like an action-y Thief) and now System Shock with Prey.

I'm actually enjoying the game more than most people around heres shitposting would imply, but the camera is ass. A lot of the old platformers were very good about making it dynamic around the level, moving it appropriately to what elements of the level you were on, doing it in a smooth manner so as not to disorient you. It would fix itself to squeeze through hallways and such and levels were even framed around the camera.

Yooka Laylee just flat gives you 100% control of the camera which really gets tiresome constantly adjusting it, having to stop to get it in an idea position and then having it move behind you the instant you start moving. The amount of work the game did in moving the camera was subtle but Yooka Laylee kinda highlights how important it was.
