Pits sometimes actually hold secrets and goodies, and sometimes are just deathtraps.

Don't use a guide your first time you fucking faggot; using it on repeat playthroughs for completion is fine.

I only played the 2nd game so I cant tell you for sure.
But the 2nd game was really awesome and I'm a dungeon crawler noob as well.

2nd is objectively superior, but 1st is a good intro.

Watch for secrets; not really a spoiler, but there is literally a secret right inside the very first room you start the game in. Go spend 30 minutes looking for it and clicking fucking everything, that'll teach you what to look for.

The game is always running in real time, combat included. Combat is also designed around manually dodging attacks with your party by moving them out of the way. Don't stand in front of an enemy and just trade hits. Kite, circle around, etc. to avoid damage. It feels cheap, but it is required later on against the stronger enemies.

the sequel is better but the first is still ok

You'll only get enough skill points to max out one to one and a half skills so plan accordingly.
There are places where you can farm food so eat when you need to.
Herbs are limited but plentiful so use em when you need em.
You're probably only going to do one play through.
High bursty DPS is more important than defense.

Also, use the vault keys as you get them the rewards don't get better if you wait.

that's what I ended up doing. Although I would recommend going with the party it makes for you. It's setup properly to cover all aspects of what you'll run into.

Don't be surprised that your peeps don't have any gear/do shit damage/can't hit shit at the beginning. The progression hits in time, and you're rewarded heavily for finding secrets, so get to looking for them.

It was one of the most pleasant surprises I've had playing a video game in some time anon, I went in blind like you. Enjoy it.
