Primal took all the stuff I didn't like from the series (crafting) and made it the crux of the game. It should have been a shorter game. I liked some of the other things they did (like fleshing out the side characters a bit more). Agreed on Blood Dragon. I really liked Far Cry 2, the first half of 3 (it lost steam once Vas died), but 4 was a total piece of shit.
