I'm rocking the laer cutter thing, since it's the highest energy gain and with how hard some enemies hit, the energy-to hp conversion is a godsend.

How is it?

Running around with PAX blade and a full rhino gear and it's kinda disappointing. My stamina goes away quite fast, I'm slow but neither my armor nor my block are actually doing something to mitigate the damage. I still receive from 1/3 to full 3/4 of my health bar in dmg from heavy guys and the fast ones just stab me through my attacks.
Either this game is harder than Blodborne/Nioh or being heavy str build is not worth it.
Anybody had experience with heavy? Pls advise.

Pax blade is the only weapon worth a damn so far. Really not enjoying all these rhino enemies in this second zone however.

You basicly have to block and counter. Tanking hits is just not possible as far as I have seen. In the second area it's worth it to bait their attacks and block it for a easy counter rather than try and get hits in normally, with the butterfly guys especially. Get free hits when it knocks them down then go guard/counter again.

It seems like they didn't learn from Lords of the Fallen at all. They still have some of their neat mechanical ideas like fading souls/echoes but it doesn't seem like they kept the diminishing values like before.

Not only that but what the christ, is there actually only seven weapons or is that just because no one actually made it anywhere meaningful yet? Even Lords of the Fallen had like, thirty or forty weapons total.

I hate this stupid exo suit design that some games are going for now.

I don't know which CoD it was in but one of them had the exact same armor design.

Lords of the Fallen was the opposite, with heavy slow characters being fucking easy mode while agile characters were heavily punished constantly. Kinda like Souls actually, where your tanky builds or builds that used a shield had basically no excuse when it came to failing against a boss.

The cool thing about Dark souls games is that lock-on is 100% optional and I literally never ever used it because it's a shitty crutch mechanic for people who can't aim manually.

Targeting mechanics and combos work well.
Enemies are relentless, this game is HARD.
Upgrading your rig and parts does more than just increase armor. It also scales with weapon impact damage and elemental damage resistance.
Very well optimized on PC.
Customizable HUD and options to turns finisher slow-down off etc.
Small maze-like environments that are surprisingly well interconnected.
Despite the fact it borrows Souls elements, it succeeds very much at creating its own identity being its own thing.

I just killed boss 3.

I'm enjoying it; I think the best thing this game is is a demonstration that the studio learns. This is a far better attempt than Lords of the Fallen. There is very little in the way of blatant incompetence in the Surge, where LOTF had plenty.

It's probably in all honesty a 7-8/10. It manages to do what it sets out to do in a competent fashion, but the lack of real ambition and scope is pretty evident. Animations for all weapons fast or slow are fairly slow, combat doesn't feel 'quite' right, but it's a far more deft effort than LOTF was.

Overall, worth a buy if you're a starving souls fan who wants a quick fix. Game has no multiplayer though, not even orange soapstones, so i doubt it'll linger long. Worth a playthrough, maybe NG+ if it's well done, and then put it away.

Is there any reason NOT to use the lynx gear? Rhino defense does not make up for the stamina use increase and everything else so far is kinda shitty set bonus (more vitality from implants/reduced elemental damage)

Plus everything still kills me in two-three hits in heavy gear or light gear. I don't understand the exosuit balance here.

If you go full energy build with implants and a high energy weapon you could get a decent enough charge to use it after every hit or so. So I can imagine a land where your strat is heavy hit, dodge, shoot drone, repeat.

Ive just been using the PAX Blade and Lynx set. I pretty much just sprint at every enemy and combo them and then dismember. If I cant dismember them, or just outright kill them, I back off, repeat until they are dead.

The sprinting attack seems to knock down enemies a majority of them time, with the PAX blade anyway.

I just got to the bio hazard area? After recycling. So far so good. Enemy variety may be a bit lacking currently, but we'll see. Its been very enjoyable thus far. I absolutely love the industrial setting, and the combat has been great fun. No major complaints so far.

The environment is not made for guns though. It's a construction/space company, easy to see guns wouldn't be in it. If the game was taking place in some sort of military company, fair enough, but here the whole point os thay you use those mundane robot partsto make weapons.
