I'm to be gifted this PC, can you tell me what to expect?
>Asus 2gb r7 250x
>intel 2400 4x3.4Ghz
>8+2 Gb ddr3
>>
I hope you're not being "gifted" it new and that it's a hand-me-down.
>>
>>377083887
The latter heh
>>
I have similar specs, just set the resolution to 720p and you'll be set
>>
>>377083956
a free PC is a free PC.
It will be fine for older games but don't expect much.
You can always consider the power supply, case and any HDDs a discount on building a PC in the future if you want one.
>>
You can play most games, just not on high grafix.
>>
>>377083972
Great, should I OC the GPU?
>>
>>377083828
It looks like you can expect an Asus 2gb r7 250x, intel 2400 4x3.4Ghz, and 8+2 Gb ddr3.

I hope that helps.
>>
>>377083828
Shitty GPU.
Outdated but average CPU.
Uneven RAM.

Buy it a GTX 1050Ti, a 8GB RAM stick.

Also canned air since you will need to clean it because i doubt the old owner did.
>>
>>377084141
Its locked, you cant OC it.
>>
>>377084141
if you can

The 2gb limit is gonna get you on any resolutions higher than 900p

Your cpu is okay though. I'd suggest upgrading gpu at some point. I don't have much experience with intel so I can't tell you for sure if it would bottleneck something like an RX 570, 480/580 but consider starting there and equivalent nvidia gpus.
>>
>>377084162
>1050 Ti when the 470 is the same price
bait
>>
>>377084962
1050Ti is cheaper.
>>
Yea, that 250x is going to hold you back in most AAA games.
That GPU is weaker than an XB1 for the most part.
>>
>>377085010
Yeah for crappy versions with a single fan and a locked clock on an ITX sized board. It's $20 cheaper for an actual full size one. And it's way worth it to get a 470 at that point because it's hilariously more powerful than the 1050 Ti

I just got gifted this. My R9 380 just shit out. What Am I in for?
>>
>>377085453
Is it 3gb or 6gb
>>
>>377085489
6GB, forgot to say that it should arrive in about 2 weeks.
>>
>>377085453
6GB version, something good.
3GB Version, shit, got for a RX 480 instead or get the 6GB version.
>>
>>377083828
you'll be happy for another year or two before you have to do anything.

I know exactly what that system will do from first hand experience. The biggest bottleneck is going to be that gpu, but you can play everything out right now in at least 720 and 1080 on mediumish settings.
>>
>>377085559
>>377085561
Should be around a 980 / 390X, beats a 480 marginally, beaten by 580 a bit
>>
>>377085561
there's nothing wrong with the 3gb you retard
>>
>>377085886
Leaving VRAM aside, its weaker than the 6GB version.
>>
>>377085835
So, in comparison to my 380, will I see any difference? All my other components stay the same, and my CPU is very outdated by now.

i5 3570
>>
>>377085886
not him, but you can get a 3gb for around $160.
I got a 470 4gb and it was like $200, but it's a good brand and I'm happy with it so far.

How about you learn to use a search engine paco.
>>

barely and considerably cheaper
>>
>>377086020
>GPUboss

Use userbenchmark, GPUboss benchmarks are inconsistent and different.
>>
>>377086053
yeah, depending on brand, half the price.

>>377086148
whatever, it's still got the hard numbers to compare.
>>
>>377085939
you will be able to play most games on ultra, if not high settings here and there.

That's just the summary image, they give game by game results as well

Userbench is just a shitty synthetic benchmark

Man look at those top games
>>
>>377083828
>>377083956
That's not too bad.

Upgrades to make it better in order (assuming US):
16GB DDR3 1.35v
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014R8JKAQ/?tag=pcpapi-20

Noctua NH-D14
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VKVZ1A

Radeon RX570
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y5WGXX3/

That CPU should work fine for now, also it's Sandy Bridge which (probably due to an Intel error) is the only microarch to have an interesting quirk in the Turbo Boost.
All SB (not SB-E/EP) CPUs can be overclocked to 4bins above max turbo, so that i5 2400 should be capable of 3.8ghz on all 4 cores.

>D14 14.5C over ambient vs 212 EVO 15.9C over ambient

Oh man, 3x the cost for 1.4C difference my fucking god.
>>
>>377087823
>significantly quieter whilst doing it
>heatpipes won't randomly explode
>fans will last for more than 12 months

I mean why even buy a Hyper212, you could be using the stock cooler it's even cheaper!
>>
>>377088161
It took six years for my 212 EVOs fan to fail, and it didn't even overheat my processor once it did. I only noticed it when I was mucking about with a CD drive that the fan wasn't spinning.

It didn't even die because of a bad motor or bearing, it just got so choked up full of dust that it couldn't even be spun by hand.

38KB, 640x480px
>>377088161
Also the 212 EVO is quieter on that bench I just showed, it gives off only 47.1db vs 48.1db
>>
>>377087586
570? Kinda powerful?
What's the cheapest GPU to run. say, Lords of the Fallen or Dark Souls 3 1080p 60 fps (med-low settings)
>>
>>377085561
>>377085835
I am reading tons of issues about overheating with the single fan version. My 380 wouldn't go past 70°C and the place where my case is set has good airflow and it's mostly chilly due to A/C. Will I have any issues of this nature?
>>
>>377088916
No clue about Fallen, but an RX 460 almost maxes Dark Souls 3 at 1920x1080

Also don't call it 1080p, that is retarded
>>
>>377089127
Ofcourse it will get hot, is a mid end card.

If you pair it with an Aluminium heatsink and a single fan it will be hot as fuck.
>>
>>377089127
Don't OC
>>
>GeForce GTX 1060 3gb
>Intel I5-7400 4x3.0 GhZ
>8x1 GB DDR4

Getting this system for 100% free in a few days. How fucked?
>>
>>377089394
My friend, I am a poorfag, please suggest me a poorfag card that's better enough than the 250x to buy.
Again, a game that would run low 60fps 1280x720, I want a new GPU that'll run it 1920x1080 low 60fps instead.
>>
>>377089423
>>377089453

Shit, of course I'm not planning to OC. I'm just wondering if I'll ever have to worry about temps with this card, since I usually just play and don't pay attention to that shit. I just don't want to be micromanaging my components. I suppose that if it operates on 75-80 degrees, it's good enough for me, since they are designed to operate within those temps.
>>
>>377088916
Not really, even for the CPU.
At 3.8ghz it'd be essentially the same as a 2500K with a mild overclock.
Which was perfectly fine in ~2010 for a 7970 CF setup.

A 570 and a 7970 both share the same underlying GCN arch at the same 2048:128:32 loadout - just with Polaris having close to 1.5x IPC over Tahiti and also being clocked significantly higher.
Userbench is a little crappy, but it gets the point across in this case:
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-570-vs-AMD-HD-7970/3924vs2163
A 570 is essentially twice as fast as a 7970 (ie. equivalent to 2x 7970 in CF with perfect scaling)

It should be fine and keep you going for a few years yet.

If you look around more and wait for sales you could do all of this list in >>377087586 for $300 - which is a pretty decent upgrade to an already reasonable machine.
>>
>>377089687
It will operate at 65°C tops under stress.
Less if you disable idle fan settings and use it for gaming.

You will be able to OC.
>>
>>377087586
>bothering to upgrade the ram
why tho
10gb is fine for the current specs and if he ends up replacing the cpu/mobo down the line then ddr3 will be outdated anyhow
>>
>>377089667
Literally anything new except the 1030

>>377089491
Sell it

also
>4x3.0 GhZ
I really hope you don't think it be like it do
>>
>>377089861
Because you can't use 10GB for dual channel.
>>
>>377089834
please read
>>377089667
I have 150 euros to spend unless I somehow sell the 250x.
>>
>>377089491
I didn't know they make 1 gb ddr4 sticks
>>
>>377089491
For free? whoever is going to give it to you will indeed want to fuck you hard.
>>
>>377089850
Thank you my man, and thanks to all the other guys that chipped in. I guess that I'll just have to wait and see how it performs I'm sure it'll run better than my old R9 380, that's for certain. I'm really just concerned about the card's longevity.
>>
>>377089936
Yes but the ram is not likely to be the bottleneck, especially to the point where you'd spend 100+ funbucks on it
That's just awful bang/buck
>>
>>377089974
8x1 != 8 and 1.
>>
>>377089912
Probably going to keep it nonetheless because fucked if I don't need this. Can't keep browsing on a fucking Thinkpad from the late 90's.
>>
>>377090052
You said 8 1gb sticks
>>
>>377090052
I wanted to make a funny about how anon ought to have written 1x8 instead of 8x1
But okay anon
>>
>>377090108
Who is even giving it to you and why, the 7400 is a recent processor
>>
>>377089912
1030?
250x that bad?
Also any AMD equivalent?
>>
>>377090172
Buddy of mine I've been helping with a project. He won a major court settlement and I got fucked out of my good PC, so he's building this up over the next week and sending it my way.
>>
>>377090234
1030 has no AMD equivalent, they aren't bothering going that low.

250X is pretty fucking bad senpai
>>
>>377090370
So 1050 worth the cash? Need I Ti?
Also why not buy an older card like 900 series or better 200
>>
>>377090276
Please try to get a different part list, really that one is terrible.
>>
>>377090497
Maxwell gimping has begun and used GCN cards are usually burnt out bitcoin miners
>>
>>377090529
It's already shipping out. How fucked am I, Anon?
>>
>>377089969
>euros
That's a whole different ballgame.
gimme a sec.
>>
>>377083828
upgrade the GPU to something that isn't low tier, it can be 2 years old just don't get a low tier one
>>
>>377090370
250X is better than a 1030.
Much, MUCH better.

Like whatever you do OP, DON'T BUY A 1030 to 'upgrade' from a 250X.
>>
OP/250x here, should I get a 460x or a palit 1050?
>>
>>377091937
the rx 560 is amd's most recent $100-msrp card, so that's the card that should be compared with the gtx 1050. Still, the 1050 performs better most of the time, so I'd go with that one
>>
>>377092663
I've a month to decide, will 560 drop ib price. Also which 4gb version is best deal?
>>
>>377092663
Also how do you know i5 2400 won't bottleneck the 560
>>
>>377093002
all versions perform pretty much the same. The differences mostly come down to cooling, noise and size. Honestly I would just get the cheapest one I could find; I wouldn't pay something like $30 more for better cooling where those $30 could get me a 1050ti instead

as for the price drop on the 560.. maybe, but not likely. You don't lose anything by keeping an eye on prices though
