>Hitman: Absolution releases
>simplified level design, dumbed-down gameplay loop, and sex nuns
>sold 3.6 million copies
>Hitman 2016 releases
>complex level design, traditional gameplay loop, and a wealth of sick suits
>sold 200,000 copies
Is gaming dead?
>>
>200k copies
>Talking out your ass

And of course it sold like shit, it was the followup to a garbage Hitman game that had an early access business model.

Despite it being a fantastic game it had the odds against it.
>>
>early access
>episodic
>always online, intrusive drm
it was never meant to succeed
>>
>>377080019
>complex level design
>dont even have a sniper rifle unless you grind the same level over and over
>dude just play it differently then its not the same level I swear!
>always online episodic bullshit

people who think new hitman is better than absolution are retarded
>>
hopefully it will be a lesson to other devs not to do this early access episodic bullshit
>>
Maybe they should've made a Hitman game instead of copying the shittiest aspects of modern gaming trends. There is zero reason a single player game should require always online. There is zero reason to release Hitman in episodic format.

>an early access business model
You could buy each part in chunks at no extra charge and get a complete product for 10 bucks every month. It was only early access if you pre-ordered the whole thing, which is still more accurate to think of as a DLC season pass than an early access game. I won't say the business model didn't turn people off but I think they were reactionary morons for it. The always online was the real killer.

Episodic is fine for a game you're meant to replay this much. Some people might want to blow through it all and go back to revisit levels, but the spacing gave plenty of time to fully explore each map.
>>
>>377080506
It takes one mission to unlock the sniper
>>
>>377080019
Hitman Absolution came after a long hiatus plus marketing push. People already got burned and didn't pay attention to a new Hitman game especially a season model with less marketing.
>>
>>377080634
>unlock a feature all previous games had from the start
>>
>>377080618

Episodic and Early Access are one in the same, none of the Episodes could be qualified as a full product as a whole so you're basically buying into something unfinished regardless of how much you pay.

I'm not personally bothered by the model and I fucking love the new Hitman but its business model and the unclear nature of it prior to release did nothing but hurt its prospects.

>How to spot a Blood Money only player, and even then you still need to finish the first mission to get it
>>

as a Hitman fan who started from the first game at launch now 17 years ago, I skipped this new game because of the disgusting episodic release and the anti-consumer DRM.

I would have payed full price no problem for a normal release without this horrible DRM.
I don't know if the game is better than Blood Money (I doubt), but I'm not touching until it's 5 bucks or they remove the DRM. Also only 6 or 7 levels? WTF
>>
Good thing Denuvo and always online ensured those high sales.
