Breath of Fire IV has some nice fishing.

Because much like fishing in real life it's an escape from the stresses of the day to day. The stresses in a video game usually being saving the world and the like, so it's a nice change of pace.

I generally hate fishing in videogames. It's a weird combination of dull and requiring a lot of focus. Because you have to pay attention for when the bobber goes down or whatever, but there's a lot of nothing happening in the meantime.

My favorite fishing minigames are the ones in Stardew Valley and Rune Factory Frontier. They have active fishing systems where you never have to wait for a bobber or anything. In Stardew Valley you have to keep a moving fish inside a bar you can control. Rune Factory Frontier's system is similar except the bar doesn't move and you just have to press a button once the fish moves over it.

I'm expecting to see fishing added with DLC. Seems like an easy thing to add. They can just make a fishing rod a one handed weapon you can find that has a throw attack like the fire rod. You use the throw attack and it shoots a hook.

Weirdly enough, One Piece: Unlimited Adventure was my favorite game to fish in. The fishing mechanics were complicated enough to be interesting, but never outright explained, but intuitive enough that you could get a good feel for it over time. And the fish were actually used for something so I felt satisfying to reel in rare fish.

Twilight Princess was my favorite for fishing by far.

Between the hut with all it's little details, the way the seasons could change, and being able to go out on the water with Hena in a boat, it felt like a lot more than throwing a line in a pond.
