D1's item world is one of the dullest and most exhausting processes to go thru. D2 was complete improvement aside of Felony System. D3 and D4 were ok, tho again, pirates, too many of them. DD2 was pretty good. Yet to dive a lot into D5 but seems pretty fun too.

Well I yet to play enough of D5 so can't say anything here, but maybe because you are so used and experience with later games, D5 seems naturally easier for you? Dunno. Sure D1 is the hardest story wise, and post game grinding is more complicated and not streamlined. But even after all the polishing even tho it's now more easier than ever to play, I can't really call it "terrible practice". It's just what happens when you polish concept too much

But going back to faults and terrible practices - DD2 happened, I almost managed to clean that from my memory.

People didn't even know Prey was already out for days. Titanfall 2 got murdered on release because it was sandwiched between Battlefield and CoD. If a game can't capture attention on release, it's very rare that people check up on it later in any significant numbers. By the time the original games overshadowing it aren't the big news any more, there's something else to eat up that attention. Most games make most of their sales on release for the primary reason that it's when most attention is aimed at them. Barring very rare instances of things like FFXIV:ARR or weird second surges like Siege had, most games peter out a lot over the months after release. Sometimes games have a long tale in sales that eventually matches release due to selling smaller but appreciable numbers over a long period of time. But those are also fairly rare.
