Galaxy 2 has the worst good-level-to-shit-level ratio, Yoshi is terribly implemented and it's the only one of the four that actually recycles stages from previous entries. It's not a terrible game outright, but it's definitely the worst of the four.

Galaxy 2 is an expansion from the B team using leftover ideas. They went on to make the bland 3D World.

I've only watched some folks play the galaxy series because I stopped caring about Mario games years ago. Not saying they are bad, I just stopped caring.

Sunshine handles beautifully.
Mario 64's good, but Sunshine refined almost all of the ways you can just let Mario move.

Galaxy handles well, but the level design started the linear trend. So it's like an awkward middle child between the open 3D games and the goal oriented ones.
