I would say Mirror's Edge, as well.

First person, parkour with upper and lower movements, as well as slides and jumping and all that jazz, with the interesting colour scheme.

Fucking this.

Not to mention not getting the Jetpack or any of the good mechanics much later from the start.

Also I hate achievement names where they are the same as their description.
>>
>>377059663
Essentially it is a standard third person shooter against alien robot things, taking place behind wait high walls.

BUT

The walls are up the side of buildings, so o you use your jet pack to play vertical shooting rather than horizontal. And then if you get sick of it you just go all Boba Fett on them. There are a few larger, open areas which you can truly fly around in a full 3D environment.
>>
>>377059730

>Also I hate achievement names where they are the same as their description.

Thats nitpicking but yeah I agree

Since we are nitpicking, my god I fucking hate the protagonist outfit, I thought we were going to get the badass armor we see in the prologue but nope. Also in the past scenes, where he and that girl were dating, he has that same outfit, hes been wearing it for fucking years

Which is a game I actually did buy. Wonder why that and not this.

Speaking of Inversion, I suppose that's relevant to the thread. Let you mess around with gravity and flipped levels on their side every now and again. Was basically a shitty Gears of War

Dead Space 3 has some neat ideas in co-op where your partner will see things that you don't, which sort of messes with your mind
They wanted to go further with those ideas but EA and all that bollocks

>>
>>377064020
They could've made it fun though. Being limited to whatever ammo was currently in the gun was a good idea, but removing all the parkour as soon as you got the gun was bad. They should've removed certain elements, and slowed you down slightly, but turning Faith into a tank as soon as you got a gun made you want to avoid them at all costs exactly as you say. However, the path of least resistance is a real thing, and in linear games as opposed to open world games it happens that you don't realise you should've limited yourself before it's too late and the segments over. But since that's something you have complete control over it's still not a minor flaw.

A bigger problem is that the general city levels are also the most interesting. Instead of building up the presentation to reach a peak near the end of the game you instead go from the city, a very well designed environment to boats and sewers which are much less interesting. It kind off redeems itself with a strong final level, but there were still much more that could've been done in terms of presentation.

I don't think it's coming back. The industry has moved in a way that by and large has killed them off. Publishers want big profits from anything they're spending more than a little time on. You see how even with big IP's they're massively overstating their selling power and constantly missing targets. With AA games it's even worse, so they just died altogether. It's a risk they don't want to take, it's why companies like Konami went full Pachinko

Played it fully. Always found the idea interesting.

In practice it wasn't all that great tbf. Game was nice, I remember the final boss being a bit of a cheap pain in the ass in that he'd kept coming back or something.

I'm not quite sure what it was, but I do remember it being 7ish in the morning and just wanting to see the credits. Not that it was bad but I felt like I'd got to the end and the boss just kept going on.

I can't remember much about the whole you never die and your limbs just get torn apart though. I mean, other than rolling around as a head I can't remember what the gimmick actually offered.

I think the devs wanted to create a game with a unique health system that was different from the simple health meter that depletes the more damage you receive. Since enemies can knock your limbs off or even your head off if they hit you, getting hit has a unique consequence gameplay-wise. It's a funny joke mechanic, but like any joke, it gets really tiring the more often it happens. I do think the game is unique enough for any curious person to check out, but it certaintly wasn't a good game. It was kinda amazing someone was willing to do something that weird and different on the last gen consoles with the high production costs on those systems.
>>
>>377068208
>it certaintly wasn't a good game
I wouldn't say it's bad either though. The combat is fine, maybe bordering on bad considering it's 3rd person action in very similar vein to DmC (you could use guns and swords if I recall, right?) but it's easily playable and I did have fun with it.

As for the Joke mechanic I guess you hit the nail on the head. It was nice and fun but then basically led to nothing

>>
>>377073078
they gave you a jeep to drive around in but it was slow as shit and there was no proper physics so you couldn't do anything fun with it. The map wasn't that big and mostly empty outside of isolated pockets of animals. The mission structure would tell you to go out and get a picture of something, but to get a good picture you could be sitting there in a bush for ten minutes waiting for that faggot giraffe to turn his head. Pokemon Snap had more fun photography mechanics.
>>
>>377059160
Overgrowth.
It's a really neat engine, it just needs a game to go with it.

inb4 consorts with beasts, fovre hvndred and fovre, etc
>>
>>377066457
Fuck you, the game was literally vomit inducing.
>>
>>377073279
Ah right, I see now
Makes you wonder why they bothered with exclusivity
>>
>>377069319
It's because they made the experience fit the game (over-the-top, fun, completely unashamed of being a bit silly), rather than trying to make a game that delivered an experience.
>>
>>377066457
>that final boss

A lot of part of this game might be shit, but that final section absolutely takes the cake.

Devil's Third had a neat mix of hack and slash and TPS and FPS. It had this sort of paper scissors rock of shoot, roll, melee. Nintendo fucking killed it when it could have been at least a modest success. Online was genuinely fun (except for the auto-shotguns which ruin just about any shooter).

I found Gravity Rush so stale and mediocre in every single way. I don't see how they could take an idea so promising and shit on it by removing player momentum. Such a slap in the cock. Game was pretty hideous to boot.

>>
>>377081526
No, is it better? I honestly didn't buy GR until the remaster was on sale shortly before 2 got released and I felt so burned I didn't even think about it.

I heard moon mode makes it better but honestly the fact I didn't see videos of people whipping kat through the air leave me pretty skeptical it fixed the problem I had.
>>
>>377081628
Throw a ball. Then go play Gravity Rush. Note the difference.
>>
>>377081639
I don't know, I was just wondering if you found it any better. I've not played either, but 2 is definitely much prettier and has great presentation

The gameplay isn't that great though and doesn't get any better in sequel because of all the 'delivery' quests.

>>
>>377081420
I really think this game would have benefited with bigger maps.

it would allow for more strategy instead of mindlessly charging in with a team of shields.
>>
>>377071858

It's a Raven game, so it's a mostly competent shooter with a gimmick. Raven is the master at making average games that end up somewhat interesting because of that one gimmick.

Nothing particularly wrong here.
Good flight mechanics, bullet strafing, missile runs, stealth copters, and even a sniper rifle scope for your main gun.
Always got bored though. Coulda used more fantasy war elements like Metal Slug or Advance Wars.
>>
>>377060786
Short as fuck. No reason to replay it.
>>
>>377082950
The game needed combat, a more seamless transition into the actual creepy moments, and a more meaningful usage of the psych profiling system and it would've been good.

One day, I'll make a game that's pretty much SH:SM, but good. One day...

>>377059634
is this game the same from beginning to end? I bought it in a sale because of how much praise it got from everyone and people kept saying it was a better assassin's Creed game but so far it's been super generic and the lack of variety in the world makes it painfully boring, not even the music from the films are present to keep me interested.

also the controls are awful.

It definitely picks up when you get to chapter 8, which is when you get armor that lets you go into boost mode (slowing down time for everything else). Chapter 3-7 are pretty blurry outside of that chapel with the tedious puzzles, so I don't know if it's worth playing through them

I feel like if they made a sequel/spiritual successor to Geist that borrows a lot of the refined, modern shooter mechanics, Ninty could have a unique, fluid, shooter on their hands.

but of course they won't because >m-muh games for everyone.
