I recently got it gifted to me and haven't been able to put it down. I love it, but I wish the level design wasn't so lackluster, it just looks like a generic destroyed anime city with buildings you can't really enter despite having holes in them.

You can see where they put in the effort when looking at the art design and animation. The combat feels like it's been pulled directly from MGR and the map is fucking annoying with the excuse that 'it's just the way it is, go explore, lol'.

The flight suit bits are a bit arcadey but it's otherwise a solid beat em up.

My biggest complaint is how pointless the RPG elements are. There's no point in caring about upgrades or plug in chips, or usable items if all combat just boils down to mindlessly smashing square, evade and using Large Recoverys when needed (which is rarely).

I basically just pressed square, ignored all drops and upgrades, and enjoyed the story. If the changes to your character made meaningful, tangible differences, then this would have matched the hype people had for it. It's still excellent, but its a shame on this front, especially as the combat was so gorgeous to look at.

I maxed out my movespeed, and picked up autocollect. 100% improvement on QOL were worth more than any Crit. Played on Hard, mostly Normal. The shockwaves gaves 2b a better range, the chip that gives you hp when you kill enemies and do damage makes the recovery iteams mostly useless (thankfully) and the battle more interesting since your survival is more linked to how you fight, the chip that stops time after perfect dodging gives you another reason to get the right timing, the chip that enhance the charged attacked makes them a better alteranative since they aren't that better than normal attack by default, the chip that give hacking a group stun effect makes it a very interesting alternative and changes the effects a fuckton, and so on.

Same goes for mindlessly smashing square, I don't understand it. For example the axe's dash+attack has a short range but it curves a lot so it's good for near enemies that are placed on an "horizontal line" the charged attack with the lance has great range and it's great for enemies placed on a "vertical line", the square+square+trinagle combo with sword and huge sword is good against enemies that are in front of you, the same combo with sword and lance is great if you are sourrended, and so on, the are interesting variations can suit different situations better.

Honestly, it looks to me that people who shit on the combat or didn't test shit at all, or are platinum fags wanted a new bayo game. For an ajrpg it's top tier, imo.

It's good and fun for large enemies, just too simple for small enemies but it flows pretty well and with the stun chip it's pretty useful.
It also adds variety even from other points of view since you can subjugate and take control of the enemies, controlling and smashing everything with the huge machines felt great.

It's like a perfect mix of a bit of grindy JRPG with a fast paced action game like Metal Gear Rising.

The main hub leaves a lot to be desired being just some abandoned city that caves in but the Disney World level was fun and now I'm at some Mall area that I guess transitions into a forest. It's great so far. Then I hear it has multiple endings.

I mean no game is perfect but I'm having a shitload of fun with it so far.

The areas are dreadfully boring and bland, the quests are horrible, and overall graphics are shit. The combat is pretty decent. It hurts the game so much bouncing between checkpoints and then return to the fucking resistance camp for the 50th time.
