Have there been ANY decent sRPG/tactics games in recent years?
I see a lot of tactics-ish looking games on smartphones now but I assume they're all ad-infested, microtransaction pieces of shit.
Check out Voidspire Tactics + Alvora tactics.
Two really fun games.
Also, Battle Brothers might be up your alley.
I also somewhat enjoy Super Dungeon Tactics.
try not weebshit
Of course not dumbass why would anything nice ever happen.

FFTA2 > FFT gameplay wise.
>>377029718
>all ad-infested, microtransaction pieces of shit.
true.
try to find some good ol games you might have missed.
>Kartia [PSX]

Shadowrun Dragonfall

all shit since ps1
>>377030173
Those look like they're worth checking out. Thanks.

Well I last played X-Com 2 and need something new now.
Saw some recommended tactics games on Steam like some Heroes of Might and Magic meets Warhammer 40K game but it was like 40% positive reviews.

I agree. I've played the hell out of FFT, FFTA, and FFTA2 more than any other strategy game. Hours and hours in each one. I like the way they handled RNG/Dodge, mana, and cool combos like Illusionist + Seer jobs to hit every enemy on the map 2-3 times in FFTA2 to not rank it #1.

I've got Shadowrun Returns but for some reason it makes me super nauseous and I dunno why. I love the concept, though.
>>377031129
Played most of em. Tactics Ogre was my jam as a kid.
It's my favorite genre and sadly, no, it hasn't had many good titles recently. I'm still playing Jagged Alliance 2 to scratch my itch. In terms of recent titles: Mordheim: City of the Damned is actually really good. Unfortunately the online community was pretty much dead on arrival so don't expect to get anything out of it other than single player. But that single player is great.

Disgaea 5 as well as Fire Emblem Awakening.
War of Crown and Phantom of the Kill are both really solid mobile SRPGs.
Grand Kindom is also pretty interesting as well.
And Vlkyria Chronicles is always good.

There's another 40K game, Sanctus Reach. It's basically a vidya adaptation of the tabletop game.
It's been pretty well recieved. Check it out.
wasteland 2 is a big turn based rpg, the combat is the same kind of thing as shadowrun dragonfall
I enjoyed expeditions conquistador and the banner saga a while ago, they're kind of flawed but nice
I really like Banner Saga but the battle system is probably the weakest part of those games
there's also a sequel to Expeditions: Conquistador (which was a good game) but I haven't played it yet
Just try to complete Tactics Ogre on the PSP. That game is retardedly overstuffed with sidequests.
the genre was always shit so I don't know why you'd expect it to suddenly get good in recent years
>hurr durr let's make a strategy game where you can bypass the strategy if you level grind for 4 hours and get all the over powered gear for your troops
>>377029718
Wakfu is ok if you dont mind MMOsl
>>377032784
>the genre
you're only talking about weebshit though
Disgaea 5 is great if you like really customizing units.
>>377032808
wakfu is complete shit
Let's not forget Divinity original Sin, Age of Decadence and its spin-off Dungeon Rats.
So yeah OP, you have a lot of stuff to pick from.
>>377031076
Correct. And it also made me realise the second screen is the best addition Nintendo has ever given to it's consoles
>>377032784
>implying all games in the genre were like that
>implying the best weren't designed to screw you over for doing that, or had much harder challenges in the higher levels, meaning grinding 4 levels to pass a story quest was nothing compared to the 200 levels required to beat some rare encounter a short while after.
is xenonauts good
>>377029718
Disgaea 5
>>377033601
Yeah, I love it. Imo it's just a modernized and improved classic XCOM. It's remarkably faithful to the original.
FE:Conquest was really good, despite having one of the most hilariously awful stories I've ever experienced. Don't bother with the other Fates games though
I just finished playing through Legends of Eisenwald. Really good story and fun to strategize with different team comps.
What about Mercenaries Saga on the Eshop
>>377032784
You could just, you know, not grind.
>>377032784
>when you buy the last remnant and grind thinking it'll make the bosses easier
Fuck I love that game, seeing everyone get destroyed and shit on it for being too hard is delicious
Have you played Underrail, OP?
It isn't an SRPG game, but it's very tactical (Surprisingly since it has a single-character, not a party). But the combat is top fuckin' notch.
Shitloads of possible, viable builds, too.
>>377035030
And by the way, have you played the Front Mission series?
It's fantastic if you like Mecha.
>>377035030
Mother fucking jetskis that can be weaponized and used in drive bye in the expansion.
Super Robot Wars V
>>377035292
It's gonna be amazing
I hope the area maps will be big enough to justify them, tho. They were usually kinda small.
>>377029718
There are actually a ton of passable SRPGs on ios and android. They just cost money instead of being F2P.
>>377035173
Also also, I'll second Expeditions Conquistador and Viking.
Great titles both.
More importantly, would anyone like to see an indie game made in Unreal or Unity that played like FFT/A/2 but looked a bit more like X-Com?
I'm considering making it a project since I learned to program procedural generation of grid levels and already know how to do basic RPG systems. Just need to learn the sRPG turn/speed/army management/overworld stuff.
>>377031129
>>Ragnarok Tactics [PSP]
Game was garbage
>>377029718
I'm shocked no one's made a modern style game like this. I've had some ideas of a modern take on this genre.
Full 3D. You can pause time at any moment, and give orders to your units. Maybe these are periodic "turns". For example, Order a unit with a cross bow up to the 2nd floor window, and postioin himself there. Fighting takes place in real time though. You can control any unit directly. This is similar to modern FF battle systems, but it gives more direct control instead of the AI doing everything.
Terrain would be incredibly useful. Cover and suprize would be important.
