In the case of the Souls franchise, I generally do play exclusively for gameplay outside of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, and that's because those games DID have good lore and interesting worlds and some really memorable characters.

And the reason why I care so much in the case of Dark Souls 2 and 3 when it comes to lore, especially 3, is because they are sequels to my second favorite game of all time. And they are both extreme steps down from the worldbuilding and characters of Dark Souls 1. And not only are they major steps down, but in some cases they go out of their way to spit on the first game. For example, the not one, but TWO instances of "hurr is an illusion" with Ornstein, and the absolute change of the lore of the Firstborn in Dark Souls 3.

I'm so baffled about how you guys are so desperate for them to make yet another Souls game. I'm way more interested in seeing what else they are capable of doing after all the success.

Personally i would prefer a new IP from Fromsoft, for me after playing over 1khrs over the last 3-5 years soulsborne is just too repetitive at this point.

I would like a game that still features a depressing dark fantasy story but nothing with big monsters that need to be fought with that same gameplay mechanics soulsborne featured.

I would prefer a 20-30hrs story based singleplayer game that draws me into the story and makes sure im fascinated by the world and the characters rather than expecting me to explore the story myself like soulsborne did.

See, what doesn't make sense to me is that it appears (obviously, it's circumstantial, but there isn't NOTHING to the theory) that almost everyone universally prefers the rat's nest world design of Dark Souls 1 to the teleportation of the others. It's the only thing, personally, that keeps any of the other games from touching it. I fucking loved BB, but I rank it directly behind DaS1 because of the teleporting and disconnection I feel when warping from place to place.

Why hasn't From taken that into consideration? Is it really that much harder to design a map the way that DaS1's was?

Well yeah, that's not even worth discussing. If Dark Souls 2 and 3 would have been two completely original, good games, I would have preferred that as well.
But that was never a choice. Dark Souls 2 was made while Miyazaki was working on Bloodborne. They wouldn't have given an entirely new project to a teram without their best designer.
And Dark Souls 3 didn't take that long a time to make because they already had so many assets like weapon and armor deigns, lore, etc...
So I don't think we would have gotten two great original games in exchange for the DS 2 and 3.

DS2 and Bloodborne were made around the same time and were both criticised for having a teleportation system insttead of a connected world.
So making Dark Souls 3, they must have known that players preferred the DS1 design. But even knowing that, they went for the teleportation design. That must mean that designing the world with teleportation is that much easier that they felt it would benefit the game by taking that time and investing it in other parts.
