Planescape Torment.
Ghost Trick.
FF VI.
Even Danganronpa is better.

Zero Escape is essential "never read a book in my life"-core. They're still pretty great games though, 999 is 6/10, VLR is 7/10.

999 was the only one that actually stuck with me, with VLR I realized that it was reusing the same formula and the shift in artstyle/graphics alongside the cliffhanger ending (half of the plot points in the game are retroactively ruined by ZTD) just didn't do it for me

Danganronpa 3 was also a huge mess, but at least they left that arc behind to rot finally.

I'm being completely serious here when I tell you to not play ZTD. Let yourself be left wondering what a 3rd game would have been like so you can remember the series fondly I like I used to. After playing ZTD I don't even like the series anymore, it legitimately made me like the series as a whole less. I can't even look at 999 and VLR the same way anymore and they both are some of my favorite games. And I know I'm not the only one because I've seen other people on here express similar feelings.

999: Pulls a time-bullshit twist from it's ass without explaining how the fucking paradox began. (But let's say that the paradox exists because the possibility that it may exist is there, and thus quantum-bullshit)

VLR: SURPRISE, IT DOES THAT AGAIN, NO FUCKING EXPLANATION. (Let's scratch that one up to quantum bullshit as well)

ZTD: You guys do understand that there is no fucking way in hell that Delta could exist right? Right?

Plot was shit but i did enjoy those games...a bit...
>>
>>377021994
Skip ZTD and play Ever17 instead if you want more of uchikoshi at his best. ZTD has maybe a couple decent twists if you're stupid like me. It shits all over decent characters and answers basically nothing whatsoever from VLR.

IMO, the problem started when they decided that 999 needed a sequel. 999 was already fine on its own, and VLR would have been fine in its own right if it didn't end with a bunch of unanswered questions basically an ever17 reskin on the moon with a far shittier "ending"
>>
I don't get 999's ending
So akane was alive all along? What was seven's smile supposed to mean, that he had known since the beginning that she was alive? If akane was alive why did santa try to save her via the game?
>>
>>377024234
Akane was sort of alive, somehow she managed to make a connection with junpei 9 years in the future, which saved her from her actual fate, however the catch was that she was the one who created the connection to begin with, thus, she existed as a schrodinger's cat of sorts until she managed to replicate the event that saved her in the first place.

Everytime she fucks up with the timeline in such a way that the "true ending" becomes impossible to get she gets fever fits...because you know...she burns....for real.
>>
>>377023874
999 foreshadows time-related bullshit the entire time, especially when you talk to akane. It gradually warms you up to the psychic shit, and only really brings it up a good halfway through. The "paradox" just began when child akane was thrown into the incinerator. She starts thinking of plans that will allow her to communicate with someone in the future. Presumably, in the true end, she thinks of the scenario that works, escapes, and then makes sure it happens. It makes a lot more sense to me than VLR did, even with the half-explanations from ZTD.

In any case, play E17 if you want a story that ties everything up perfectly (except for who kicked the damn can, of course). It's pacing is nowhere near as good as 999/VLR, but its ending makes up for it.

>>
>>377027902
999 = VLR >>>>>>>>>>>>>> ZTD
never played infinity series.
>>
>>377024234
Akane is Schrodinger's Cat, and the Nonary Game is the box.

We don't know if she's alive or dead until the game is over, so during the game, she is both.

It's the cause of Seven's amnesia, and the reason for June's fevers.
Seven can't remember that Akane died if she's alive in the game.
Every time Junpei strays from the timeline where Akane lives, she falls ill because she's dying all over again.
>>
>>377027986
>never played infinity
shit nigga, get out there and pirate Ever17 at least. The only thing that keeps me from rating it higher than 999 is that it's got slightly worse pacing (on another note, Never7's horrendous pacing is the only reason I rate it lower than ZTD.)

>>377028370
I'd highly recommend it. It's by far the best of the infinity series (playing the others isn't necessary; they're only loosely set in the same universe/time frame).

Never7 is 99% tedious waifufaggotry and 1% great twist

Ever17 is 50% tedious waifufaggotry and 50% great twists

Remember11 is 75% good storytelling, but is basically incomplete (the most interesting parts of the story are, no joke, given in the in-game glossary if you happen to unlock them)
>>

>>
>>377028824
>50% of this really long story is tedious

I enjoyed ZTD and continue to enjoy 999 and VLR as much as I did before.
>>
>>377029115
Then you don't deserve to have played them.
>>
>>377029352
>if you don't have MY opinion, you don't deserve to enjoy things!
Sorry.

I'm gonna keep enjoying things while you overreact to a game not living up to expectations and letting it completely ruin games you once loved.

Personally, I feel like that's a really shitty mindset to have so even if I did hate ZTD, I wouldn't let it ruin 999 or VLR for me.
That's just retarded.
>>
>>377029090
Eh, it's not really that bad. It's got plenty of foreshadowing and stuff. The main tedious parts are that you'll either follow a guide, which is tedious by default, or end up needing to replay the common parts at the start of the routes several times as you figure out the correct choices.

I mean, the routes all serve the purpose of setting up the questions and information that all pulls together in the true ending. Think of it like 999's bad endings, but with less tension. Some of E17's non-true endings even end up with some of the characters surviving

>>377039906
Yeah, that's one of the reasons I preferred 999 in the first place. The scifi just kept requiring more and more suspension of disbelief in the sequels. It was extremely obvious, especially given ZTD, that 999 was never intended to start a series.

Like, in 999, the different timelines are just different future possibilities, but then in ZTD it's full-on "we'll forcibly swap places with ourselves in parallel universes, and if this means we're consigning our alternate selves to die painful deaths then who cares"
