I really got into reading weeklies when New 52 started (pretty much just stuck with trades before that), and the main problem with New 52 Superman mostly seemed to be that no one knew what the hell to do with him. Grant Morrison was constantly doing whatever the hell he wanted in Action Comics, and everyone else on the other books struggled to keep up. It didn't help that Justice League was fucking awful and showcased every character at their absolute weakest.

Well Marvel is right in one regard, the push for diversity didn't sell. The twitter, tumblr, etc verse can complain all they want about the statement, but the fact is, the audience that ACTUALLY BUYS THE PRODUCT thought it was lazy and uninspired.
