Honestly she and the actual alexandrian soldiers barely even do much/kill anyone. It's mostly the black mages and the elephant.

Cecil's commits two great wrongs, as far as I'm aware, the attack on Mysidia, and the burning of Mist. He really didn't know what was happening in Mist, but Mysidia is definitely a horrible crime. So I can see how you'd think Beatrix and Cecil are similar.
The difference is that Cecil goes back to Mysidia and asks for forgiveness. He goes directly to the people he wronged and asks them how he can atone. They give him a task that they literally think is impossible -- atoning on Mount Ordeals. Once he does it, the people of Mysidia forgive him.
The difference to me is that Cecil seeks forgiveness from those he wrongs and atones according to their tradition. Beatrix does better, but she never seeks forgiveness as far as I remember.
It seems to me like the player is the one who forgives Beatrix, which isn't as strong or meaningful as Cecil being forgiven by the Mysidians.

I've heard a few times that after Alexandria falls, Beatrix begins contemplating suicide.

I looked for this the last time I played the game and didn't see it. I imagine its supposed to be that scene where she's wandering around town aimlessly as Zidane is looking for Dagger, but unless something was removed from translation I think its a bit of a jump to assume that was her contemplating suicide.

Does anyone have more solid proof of this?
