I would say that Sims 3 has the better sex mod, but Sims 3 is a much better base than Sims 4.

Indie companies would only be capable of Sims 1 level graphics, which no one wants to play. Sims 2 and up had a shitload of money thrown at them and set a graphical standard that only huge companies could meet.

To be fair Sims 1 level graphics would be acceptable if it had more depth than the Sims series. To me at least. I don't know if there's a commercially viable chunk of disillusioned Sims-playing neckbeards that want some of the deeper mechanics and especially fucking simulation like in 2 and 3 compared to what 4 ended up being to be workable for an indie.

i'd say the core changed quite a bit with 2 at least, having aspirations and legacies and stuff, sims 3's open world was obviously a big change but smaller changes like moodlets altered the game quite significantly
4 is probably the only one that didn't really expand the game's core systems, the emotions system is cool but not very well fleshed out

I feel like graphics wouldn't be important, but the style of the game would make or break it.

I think people would be quite happy with low poly 3D world with something like SD character models and then focused on the game systems having actual depth and the story progression of the world.

The whole pure life simulator market is honestly pretty untapped and I think most people are scared of trying to compete with EA and the fact that most people playing the Sims don't even play other video game.

Because not even the sims is successful any more. Each sequel had a life cycle of about 5 years and ended up with 20-odd dlc packs and expansions each. 4 has been going 3 years now but it only has 3 expansions and 4 game packs, which are roughly about a stuff pack's worth of content. Remembering that this is EA we're talking about if they thought there was money in this series they'd be milking it still instead of having a skeleton crew putting out some small bits of content every few months or so.

Depends how little you want to do. As a basic home-life simulator, it works. It looks and runs well. The problem is there is just so much less to do. And you can't just go out doing stuff in the town, especially if you have more than one sim in your household. Visiting a neighbor is a loading screen and then that's all you can control. If you get the expansion where you can play through the jobs, then you have to choose between playing the job and controlling your home lot 100%, and if you have multiple sims with playable jobs, then you have to cycle out which one you actually progress.
