> Crusaders Kings II on sale on Steam

redpill me on it vee, should I buy it?
>>
>>376932235
Ask yourself this, should you play it?

Then you will have answer to your own question.
>>
>>376932235
Thanks for the heads up I need to buy the old gods
And its my first grand strategy game, take your time to read wikis and go at your own pace. Something that feels like a loss is really just a change in direction for the game, so if you get your ass handed to you dont get discouraged
>>
>Collection 60% off
>120 eubucks
Jesus, I remember when that shit was like 40€ 75% off
>>
>>376932235
Yes. Even if it is just to see if you like the genre.
Like it? congrats on +100h of unique playtime.
Dont? shame, but paradox deserves the money and you can just ignore any further games from this studio
>>
>>376932235
All the DLC costs almost $150 WITH the sale. That should be enough of a red pill.
>>
>>376932235
Pirate it and try it first, it's a very complex game.

It's a lot of fun, OP
>>
>>376932235
It's a ton of fun. Buy the base game and pirate all of the DLC; don't support Paradox Jews.

Don't play with Conclave or Aztec Invasion enabled.
>>
>>376932235
Do you have a lot of free time?
Do you LOVE history and medieval politics?

Are you willing to fuck around for days with out any clear goal just experimenting and learning the game?
>>
>>376933149
What's wrong with Conclave?
>>
>>376933839
Just by reading the description I see it adds new ways for your vassals to tear your country apart.
>>
>>376933149
>>376933839
second this.
didnt play much since before conclave. but thought this was good addition to the gameplay.
>>
>>376934076
>>376933839
I have no idea what that guy is about. Conclave is one of the best expanions for CK2.
>>
>>376933149
what are all those dlc again?

Is this some kind of jew-like attitude similar to CA in Total War that in order to make fsctions playable you have to buy them?

>>376932361
what are you implying anon

>>376932727
>>376932978
this was my main concern that I get a barebones game and be forced to buy all the dlcs

>>376933071
It seems so, that is why I want to buy it in the first place

>>376933493
yes I do, I know comparing them to total war can rise some people's eyebrows but my maim issue with modern Total War (read Attila and Rome) is that they "casualize" the grand strategy part of thw game. It is true that Med II and Rome weren't the most deep gs games out there but I have had so much fun with the empire building part of the game and I always want more ... is roleplay politics the right term?
>>
>>376932792
>paradox deserves the money
Nice try, Johan, but I'm not loosening my grip on my hard earned sheckles until you guys fix and reboot Gettysburg: Armored Warfare
>>
>>376934606
>roleplay politics
Yes, that's exactly what CK2 is.
It's in real time so actual building is very very slow but there is lots of politics and trying to find/make the right leaders.

The worthwhile DLC is expansions, which add new mechanics and features to the game - there's quite a few of those. Aside from the expansions, there's cosmetic shit that adds new unit models, character portraits or music.

>this was my main concern that I get a barebones game and be forced to buy all the dlcs
This would be pretty true, but you can pirate DLC for the legit steam version of the game and if you want to play online only the host needs to have the DLC and everyone plays with it enabled.

>I always want more ... is roleplay politics the right term?
If that's the case, you should definetly play CK2. The game really has no equal when it comes to character roleplaying and personal feudal politics.

>>376932235
yeah its worth
but keep in mind that you can play the whole game (all dlc included) if you buy the main game only, then use creamAPI to unlock all shit for free.
No you aint get any vac, + all achi are available to unlock.
But since vanila is cancer I recommend some overhaul mod
>>
>>376935134
yeah because even though Total war had loyalty system (a very basic politic abstract that showed how cohesive your faction is) I felt is was poorly implemented and sometimes i didn't make sense
>>
>>376932235
Buy the base game, pirate the DLC.
>>
If you can handle a 20ish hour learning curve(fun learning especially if you like history at all) then buy.

If you can't handle a lengthy learning curve then skip it. Don't go alone or use the tutorial. Get online resources from the start
>>
>>376934606
>Is this some kind of jew-like attitude similar to CA in Total War that in order to make fsctions playable you have to buy them?

the game is fine without the dlc. and you can already play 50 hours before you have even seen half of the base game.
Paradox releases dlcs as long as they are they are profitable.
Which is why a five year old game still gets new stuff and the "whole game" costs +100€.
Most people complaining have played over 300hours in it and will add another few hours, thanks to this dlc policy.
Does it make every paradox shit golden? No of course not. fuck every cosmetic shit, soundtracks and some stupid addons like aztec invasion.

What should you do?
Pirate it.
if you like it, wait for a good sale and pay 35€ for almost everything, except maybe the newest dlc. Ignore atzec, horse lords and the skin packs.
>>
>>376932235
Shit without mods.

Mods make it a 10/10 game that will waste thousands of hours of your life if you have an imagination.
>>
>>376934606
Vanilla isn't as barebones as you might imagine from the amount of dlc, at least I remember playing a pirated vanilla version for like a 100 hours way back in the day when the old gods dlc was just about to drop
Really the only worthwhile dlc are the handful of proper mechanics expansions, but those are also the costliest ones, the rest is literally cosmetic garbage
I'd recommend just pirating all the dlc though since it's easy as fuck and I can't justify paying twice or thrice the full price of a new game something that's as old as CK2, /gsg/ will have instructions in the OP somewhere or you can just ask and somebody will maybe help you
>>
>>376935307

>>
>>376935870
>Which DLC do yoy recommend me the most?
I honestly don't know, man - I own all of it already and I'd say it's all worthwhile. The only one that's really completely skippable (as in, it doesn't add anything to the game's mechanics) is Sunset Invasion, since it just adds a bizarre "alt-history" scenario where Aztecs invade Europe.
>>
Game is worth. Get all DLC, some are better than others but none feel half assed. Get the EUIV converter too so you can remove kebab for an entire millennium

I have like 200+ hundred hours in CK2, never played without cheats and never finished a single game.

It's very addictive
>>
txh to all you anons. I decided to buy the game and try it and slowly add the expansions DLCs since it really scandalous that and expansions cost the same as the base game. Maybe I'll buy them when they're cheaper too show devs support

Which faction do you recommend for starters? I'm a romefag so I would be tempted to start as the roman empire, but I feel CK2 could be more way too much to handle
>>
>>376936464
Adventurer armies are based on real size, it isn't the game's fault you're shit and can't manage the few resources you need to manage.
>>
>>376937061
>roman empire
are you dumb? CK2 takes place at 700s at the earliest, well after the western roman empire fell. Theres the byazantines but they're greek.
>>
>>376932235
it's a great game but you should pirate
>>
>>376937061
Nigga pirate the dlc.
>>
>>376937061
dlc is easily piratable, /gsg/ has links hidden somewhere in the OP, it was easier before to get them but some shills kept reporting the mega repository
>>
>>376937061
Ck2 is played as a dynasty, not a nation or a faction
You can basically pick any character from a french one province count to the sunni caliph, the goal is really to ensure the survival of your lineage, you lose all your landed titles it's game over
It gets fun when you make your own goals and rules though, like trying to be historically feasible and rp etc rather than just be gamey and blob as much as possible
Ireland is usually considered tutorial island since it's a relatively small but closed environment
>>
>>376937569
where do they have it hidden? and who're the shills? some reddditors as usual?
>>
>>376937061
Pirate the DLC, really.

The game is nearly impossible to get back into after you skip out on a few expansions, it's not worth trying to keep up in a legit way.
>>
>>376932235
/gsg/ doesn't have the dlc links anymore so it's not worth it. You could just buy the main game for all the mod access and pirate all the dlc, they would work beautifully with your steam copy.
>>
>>376937669
steamcordplaza unironically sucks Johans cock and buys every single dlc no matter the price, so they reported and took down the original MEGA archive that had all the games. Instead now you just go on cs rin ru and download the games or dlc there.
>>
>>376937264
(Eastern) Roman Empire is not a succesor state of Rome, they were politically the same entity/state.
People that lived in the Eastern Roman Empire were roman citizen; even tough the City of Rome wasnt a part of it. Even when they adopted its greek name they were called Basileon ton Romanion which roughly translates to the Kingdom of the Romans. the Bizantine term is a mofern and mostly used derogatory by historians to show the "decadence"of the Empire.
Of course I was refering to the Bizantine Empire, but I dont like the term. Sorry if I didnt explain myself properly.

You learn by losing. Throw yourself into the thick of things as a Duke in the Byzantine Empire. The first time I played I ended up as a QT she-whore duchess in northern Anatolia who ended fucking her way to the hearts of the rest of the Byzantine noblemen and getting placed on the throne by force.

Aztecs are weak as fuck.

They are just infantry armies + no good generals. Mere 100k man that spread around so you are unlikely to fight more than 30-50k in one go.
Given that western europe they land in has access to some of the best troops and retinues around and for countering infantry armies (heavy cav/light cavmix for france for example) they just don't last long against an organized kingdom.

They are nowhere near mongol level where horse archers aren't just great by themselves but flat out rape a lot of unit types out of existence and the best counters to them are unavailable/hard to mass/not that strong.
>>
>>376937613
oh sorry, this proves I've never played it doesnt it?

It's not "game over" until you lose all titles or you and all of your heirs die.

So it's possible to start as a king and then end up losing power. One way this happens is if you die and your kids start a civil war. You only control the true heir. If the other brother wins you can potentially be exiled to an almost powerless but still in the game position. Then later try and retake your country some how.
>>
>>376941678
Even if you don't, if you have no direct heir, control would go back to your brother, and so long as they are the same dynasty, you keep playing.
